Yeah.

But what sealed it for me is that he signed off at least one of the posts with, "Love, Beau."

They don't call me Inspector for nothing.

One thing a troll loves is attention and to be talked about. Better to ignore. Ignoring is the only medicine that works for troll removal.

For repeat offenders, has anyone considered taking it up with their ISP? Perhaps a threat to have their Internet shut off completely might be effective at getting the message across. Doing what some have done here, repeatedly signing up under new names after knowing they were banned, almost certainly runs afoul of almost any ISP's terms of service. I would think that a warning from one's own ISP would be enough to get almost anyone to stop being abusive far before the drastic measure of actually having service cut off were to happen.

In one case around here, I would take an educated guess that the person's home ISP service is provided by their employer, perhaps at little or no cost. That might make it harder to do anything about it, or it might actually make it easier, depending on the employer's view on an employee using the Internet in an abusive manner.

Not to sound rude but an ISP is not going to care if a certain user is harrasing a particular website, unless he is doing something outright illegal, the ISP would probably do nothing.

I have no idea how it works, but I do believe there are certain escalating steps a webmaster can use to get rid of harassing posters.

I've no idea how much time or energy it would require though, nor what an isp or even local law enforcement would regard as "crossing the line" (Beau probably WOULDN'T qualify, as he's never actually threatened anyone or said anything really illegal or anything, just extremely obnoxious and harassing to the management).

You might find this interesting, William. There was one website I frequent where it turned out a troll was a member of the military, and the webmaster actually contacted the guys commanding officer.

He never came back after that. :p

Or money, for that matter.
