Earth Day is April 22nd (also Animal Kingdom's 10th birthday this year). Here's a list of planned activities around Walt Disney World
  • Animal Kingdom 9am - 3pm -- "Party for the Planet" park-wide Earth Day Celebration including Earth Day button distribution and various activities such as Supermarket Sweep and "What's in Sue's Poop?".
      • 9am - 3pm -- Various activities including Jiminy Cricket appearance and conservation stories by the Animal Programs team at Rafiki's Planet Watch
      • Pipa, the talking recycle can, has Earth Day messages. Check show schedule.
      • Gitar-Dan has Earth Day messages. Check show schedule.
  • Magic Kingdom Rose Garden 10am - 3pm -- Earth Day celebration including Jiminy Cricket appearances and Earth Day button distribution and face painting.
  • Downtown Disney Marketplace -- 1pm - 4pm -- Various activities including lady bug releases, "worms and dirt" from Disney chefs, Jiminy Cricket drawing classes by Art of Disney, and environmental displays between Once Upon a Toy and Earl of Sandwich.
  • Port Orleans Resort -- Judging of recycled art display in both lobbies.
  • Fort Wilderness (Settlement) -- Distribution of Environmental Protection Agency literature.
  • Contemporary Resort -- Earth Day celebration showcasing new and ongoing greening projects in 2008 including photo opportunities with Jiminy Cricket, recycling game, cookie decorating, face painting, organic foods, and lady bug releases .

I would guess it has to do with Sue the T-Rex that can be seen in the Field Museum in Chicago. She (is she actually a she?) is the most complete T-Rex ever found, and could have very well had a little pile of presents next to the rest of her. I would assume it would actually make for a pretty interesting exhibit or show.

On a semi-related note, the Indianapolis Childrens Museum has exhibits about poop from different animals. And the best part of it is that it's not listed on the map. Instead, it's just one of those lovely little 'surprises' you find when you go to the bathroom. : )

> She (is she actually a she?)

Actually, Sue's sex is unknown, but Sue is named after the female paleotologist that found the bones.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
