I'm thinking of: older songs that have been re-engineered (the "Motown Remixed" albums, for example); songs that were not initially dance tunes that have been "punched up,"; or, well, any recording that's been re-done to sound substantially different than the original version.

| Inspector 57 Mon 4/21/2008 9:36p | Last summer I was at a street party and the DJ played a (video) version of "Stayin' Alive" that I just loved. The music was... I dunno how to describe it. Crunchy. Electronic. Crisp. "Punched up." Original vocals. Unfortunately, the DJ couldn't identify the version.
Last night I went shopping on Amazon for music and I FINALLY found it. It's:
"Stayin' Alive" (Teddybears 2007 Remix)
I love disco music and I generally don't feel the need for the songs to be updated, but last night I also found, loved, and bought a new mix of an old Gibson Brothers classic:
"Que Sera Mi Vida" (5:33)

| kennect Mon 4/21/2008 10:00p | The strangest remix I have heard recently was taking a song from Wicked and turning it into a dance bit...Idina Menzel the original Elphaba recorded the song "Defying Gravity" on one her solo CD releases and someone apparently got the great idea to remix it into a disco dance number...Very strange result in my opinion... |

There have been lots of pain-inducing results when somebody's tried to take a "straight" song and make it into a dance tune.
On the other hand, one of my absolute all-time favorite dance tunes is:
"Desert Rose" (Melodic Club Mix) (Sting) |

You mean like "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina?" |

Also, for bad mixes see most of the Disney Mouse House CD!!! |

It was a special disk that you got if you bought the soundtrack at Best Buy on the third day of the waning moon following a snowstorm in Boise.

| kennect Tue 4/22/2008 10:29p | OH the Disney remixes I have heard are really funny and really bad...
Don't Cry for me Argentina...Depends on which one you are referring to...
The Love CD really didn't strike me as a standard remix...To me it is way beyond that and it's almost like listening to new Beatle's music for the first time in how long? Sad part in listening to it was the idea that I found they actually did a song or two I wasn't crazy about...I don't care for track one the CD...I always skip to track two and start there...Other strange thing is the idea I love Cirque and the Beatle's but really don't have a major desire to see the show... |
