Outer Critics Circle Awards nominations were announced this week. TLM managed just one for Sherie Rene Scott (Ursula). Personally I find even that generous:

Young Frankenstein managed 10.

Tony nominees due May 13.

I am so not impressed with Sherie Rene Scott on the cast album. She sounds like she's trying to do both Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa in "Xanadu".

Sierra Boggess fairs wells as Ariel. She was nominated for the Drama League award, the only nomination for the show.

I can't even listen to Sherie Rene Scott on the album. Her schtick is so annoying. It's just painful.

No one will be shocked if LM gets nada at the Tony's. The more I see, the more crap I smell.

I was kinda hoping for a shutout for Young Frankenstein, but boy they're getting lots of love lately.

The "Young Frankenstein" cast album doesn't do much for me either. Is very much on the same level as "Spamalot", not one of my faves either.

You have to see "Spamalot." Seriously. I agree that the CD makes it sound like just a big skit with way-too-simple lyrics, but the whole package is fun and entertaining. Mike Nichols sells it. I also feel the same way about "Spelling Bee." The CD makes it seem weirder than it really is.

"Young Frankenstein" just sounds desperate. I feel like I'm being punched in the face when I hear it. And rumor has it it will be closed by next year to make way for "Spiderman." God, what an odd sentence to type.

The real thing I hate about the "Little Mermaid" CD is how unfunny the funny numbers sound (specifically Scuttle and Ursula), and how lame and bland the Big Broadway Ballads sound (meaning Prince Eric and Triton).

And like with "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway, Howard Ashman's brilliant lyrics get diluted by another's sub-standard lyrics. And it's sad, because I love Glen Slater's lyrics from "Home on the Range."

Yeah, what I've heard of "Spelling Bee" doesn't do much for me either.

I still don't know why they felt it necessary to give Scuttle two numbers and King Triton none for himself. And "Les Poissons" is a travesty. Talk about talking a cute, perfect as it is, little number from the movie and turning it into a bloated mess. Did the number really need a chorus line of chefs?

One of their biggest mistakes was taking a rich, comic villain and turning her into a bafoon. Even with the humor, Ursula was still scary in the movie. The same could be said of Gaston in "Beauty".

The Drama Desk nominations were just announced, and Little Mermaid got three.

Best Actress for Sierra Boggess.
Best Lighting.
And Best Set Design.

Set Design? SET DESIGN??? Oy.

Pretty much sums up what they did to their cute, perfect as it is little movie.

yeah for Sierra Boggess! I thought she was wonderful as Ariel. I have seen the movie so many times (it's my favorite disney movie.) and she played her perfect!
All times are Pacific Time (US)
