Here's the rub. We're not talking about the same Jesus Christ. To the Catholics, " eternally begotten of the Father, God from God,"

How can he be both begotten from the Father and be God from God? I never got that one.

"To the Mormons, He's one of many of God's spiritual children."
... and only begotten of God the Father. The Creator, our Savior (whom redeems us from all our sins), our Eldest brother, our example, God the Son, from whom all priesthood authority resides, and King of all mankind.

I agree there are differences in there. I just wanted to add a few of our beliefs :) I also know that there are Protestants out there that would disagree with you on " prophet, priest, and consubstantial with the Father."

<<That was my second point about them making being "rich and comfortable" a sin. Nothing fills pews better than a little guilt. All the rich people feel the need to go to church to cleanse themselves of their "sin" of being well-off.>>

Gotcha, I see your point. Funny how they don't rid their guilt by giving to the poor. Instead they give to the mortgage company, the car dealership, the satellite provider, etc.

And yet they are able to justify it.

It's nice that god evolves. And who says god and evolution don't go hand-in-hand??

<<How can he be both begotten from the Father and be God from God? I never got that one.>>

Jesus is the physical manifestation of the spiritual god who lowered himself to human form for our benefit. Or so they say...

<<our Eldest brother>>

I would say that is also a major difference. LDS believe that Jesus is their brother -- but in a literal sense. That brings LDS members awfully close to being equal to Jesus (or at least having the potential to be) don't you think??

I am not saying this is wrong, just that's it's quite different than what Christians have believed for 2,000 years.

Agreed Eighth. Big difference between an older brother and a Lord, I'd say.

But it's all hogwash anyway, so I suppose people can believe whatever they want. ;)

Me? I'm voting Sokk-mimi. :D

Even the poor give to these things.

Lame.

Guilt is such a useless emotion. Do what is right, not because you should feel guilty about it.

Good loves a cheerful giver rather than a guilty one.

Very lame as well. I don't know anyone rich who would go to church. They have no reason to go for guilt. They are usually shameless. They have other reasons like dear old Obama who tries to get political connections and the such.

***Even the poor give to these things.***

I think you are not familiar with the real definition of "poor".

So the poor don't own cars or have satellite television?

WRONG

"Big difference between an older brother and a Lord, I'd say."

Your older brother can still be Lord and your brother. Just ask Prince Harry. I don't see the difference. When we say older brother we mean we were all spiritually begotten of God the Father. Jesus Christ was the first, so that makes him the oldest.

Not truly poor people, no.

What you are talking about is the "working poor", people with low incomes who can still perhaps save up for a used car or something.

Not a truly poor person, that'd be one with almost no money, who struggles to find the means to eat every day.

So, no. I'm not wrong. You are.

Are you really trying to say that all poor people own a car?

>>Not truly poor people, no.<<

I thought you were talking about poor people according to the income definition, but you're lowering it even further by saying "truly poor person that'd be one with almost no money, who struggles to find the means to eat every day."

You're the one having trouble with the definitions.

>>Are you really trying to say that all poor people own a car?<<

No, only the poor people who can scratch out some savings to get one or who take out a loan to get a real cheap one, which is still possible in America.

Poor doesn't not mean destitute (lacking necessities of life: lacking all money, resources, and possessions necessary for subsistence).
