"For those who might be confused: I believe that we all lived as spirits, as children of God, before we came to this Earth">>>

That isn't something I believe, josh, but I do appreciate your kind words.

<"For those who might be confused: I believe that we all lived as spirits, as children of God, before we came to this Earth"

I'm curious as to where this belief comes from. I've never seen this before in any other Christian denominations. Is this unique to Mormons, and if so, where does it come from?>

It's found in LDS scripture. There are also a few Bible passages that support the idea.

Is part of our soul's development, part of our "progression" the ability to accept that people sent to an eternity of torment is fair and just punishment?>>>

"Fair and just" are not mutually exclusive, IMO. We may not see things as fair. Fair is subjective. The way I believe is that we punish ourselves when we choose ourselves over others, or over God. Pride is probably one of the most common sins. We want what we want and no one is going to tell us otherwise.

Every moment of every day of our lives is available to ask God to be a part of our lives. We don't have to get our act together first either - He will meet us wherever we are. That's cool and more than fair.

***To Mormons, being "Christian" means you believe in Christ, no matter what other doctrinal differences there are.***

Well, in that case Muslims are Christians too.

Except that Mormons believe Jesus is a god, but they also believe there are many gods.

It just doesn't jive with mainstream Christianity, and I would challenge you, Josh, to find a Christian minister or priest who would agree that Mormonism is a Christian sect.

Challenge me? I'm confused.

I just said that Mormons use the term "Christian" to be anyone who follows Christ (And I'll modify that to anyone who believes he is the savior of the world).

I know that "mainstream" christians don't use the term Christian in the same way. To them, a Christian must share the same beliefs about the nature of god and other details that we just don't share.

I consider myself a Christian, as in I worship Jesus Christ as my savior.

I totally understand that others disagree, and don't want to call my "Christian" by their definition of the word.

Challenge in the sense of "I don't think you'll find one", that's all.

And it's fine for you to call yourself whatever you want, I'm just saying that a BUNCH of what the Mormons believe in goes strongly against mainstream Christianity, some issues right to the very core (It would be a sin in a regular Christian church, I do believe, to claim you will be or want to be a god someday, for example).

In fact, I'd bet talk like that could get you excommunicated from many churches.

Again, I don't care what you're into and in some ways I even think you guys make a smidge more sense than those guys at times, BUT to claim that your religion is a Christian one is something that I don't believe most Christians would agree with.

I agree, Mr. X.

It comes down to the definition of the word Christian. I believe it means something different than they do.

I celebrate the similarities between the LDS church and other religions, but I also celebrate the differences that make my church unique.

Heaven: Well Disneyland of course!

Hell: Being surrounded by religious people for eternity.
