Different ways to believe in God, and they're all correct.

Or not.

Thing is, for me, I can't get past the idea there's a right way and a wrong way to believe in God, or worship, or anything related to that. Or that one religion is better or more proper or correct than the other. In and of itself, that concept doesn't make sense if God is as forgiving and understanding as He's made out to be.

***That baptism is necessary to live with God.***

I thought god could do anything?

If so, nothing is "necessary" to live with him, if he wants it.

<I thought god could do anything?

God can't lie. If He did, he's cease to be God. That's what I believe.

So if he says baptism is necessary, then it's necessary. He made that law.

Did he? Maybe not - maybe it wasn't his doing at all.

And therein lies the rub. Many people believe that to consider themselves a "good christian" they have to believe everything they're told and never question it.

Does that sound like "God" to you? To exclude anybody and everybody who didn't happen to be a participant in some arcane ritual?

<<We don't "ridicule" any other churches for proclaiming our own. Not any more than other Christians believe that they are more correct than the Jews or Buddhists or Muslims. It's just different, not ridicule. C'mon, Dwarf...>>

Josh, this is getting silly. You guys are free to believe what you want - I really don't care. But to call yourselves Christian while telling all other Christians they are wrong seems wrong to me. They were first, they carried the Christian torch for 2,000 years, they collected and published the bible, etc.

You guys come in 1800 years later and say, "you didn't have the authority to act in the name of Christ so we're here to take care of all your unfinished work" and "You got the bible wrong, here's a better book for you" and "Your use of the cross is barbaric" etc.

And just for giggles, here are a couple quotes by your early church leaders about christians...

"he that confesseth not that Jesus has come in the flesh and sent Joseph Smith with the fullness of the Gospel to this generation, is not of God, but is Antichrist." (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 9, p. 312).

So all Christians that don't believe in Joseph Smith are anti-Christs.

"...no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith." (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 289).

So much for Jesus being the final judge.

"The birth of the Savior was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood -- was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers." (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 8, page 115).

Kind of lessens the whole Holy Spirit thing and implies God had sex with Mary.

"I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet . . . " (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408-409).

Um, yeah.

I'll go a bit further with this ...

>> God can't lie. If He did, he's cease to be God. That's what I believe. <<

The reason WHY it's a requirement that christians buy into the whole enchilada is precisely within your quote above.

If even one thing in the bible is determined to be untrue, the walls come tumblin' down. God is infallible, and the bible is the direct word of god himself. So if a "believer" questions anything in the bible, or decides that maybe it's not quite aligned with what you know to be true, then the bible isn't the literal word of god, but instead something concocted by us - the species on planet earth.

Even more, you are required and expected to maintain this volutary self-delusion throughout your entire life. Thou shalt NEVER stray from "the word". And your reward for all of this denial and delusion? Everlasting life - after you're dead. Also, make sure you've been baptized, otherwise it's eternal damnation for you.

That's god's plan for us, in a nutshell. I don't believe in that god.

Another article about the Christian view of Mormons...

http://www.christianpost.com/a...mons.htm

Interesting tidbits:

"In a recent online debate, prominent evangelical scholar, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, argued Mormons are not Christians because from its founding Mormonism has rejected traditional Christian orthodoxy and membership in the traditional church. "

"The majority of Americans surveyed (52 percent) believe Mormonism is a Christian religion. However, white evangelicals stand out among polled religious groups for considering Mormons to not be Christians."

***God can't lie.***

Of course he can, if he exists.

He can do whatever he wants. He's god, for pete's sake.

You have actually boxed the guy into a corner so far that he actually DOESN'T have god-like powers anymore because of all your (or his!? that's bizarre) self-imposed restrictions.

Any regular human can lie, are you telling me god is incapable of it?

What an insult. Hope you don't get struck down for your insolence!
