Hm, if only people carried an Official Representative of Jesus card. It would make things a lot easier.

***It's similar to thinking "I believe in Jesus Christ, but I reject Peter, James and John."

It would be silly to do so.***

Well, first of all I don't agree with your premise. Perhaps someone has done a lot of research and reached the conclusion that James (for example) wasn't a very cool guy.

That doesn't mean that person is automatically rejecting the teachings of Jesus. Not in the least.

Didn't the bible point out frequently that the followers of Jesus were flawed and human, and often let him down?

***If you reject Peter, you are rejecting a servant and representative of Jesus Christ, and thus rejecting Jesus.***

See above. I don't see the parallel here whatsoever. But if YOU do, then you are committing a grave sin by being a Mormon since you should be devoted to the pope in terms of the "lines of succession". Since he is an official rep just like those other guys, aren't you, in fact, rejecting Jesus?

***If Joseph Smith REALLY WAS a prophet and representative of Jesus Christ, who are you really rejecting if you reject Joseph?***

Lots of people have claimed lots of things.

However your example is rather skewed since the other guys you bring up actually knew Jesus and spent time with him, no?

Again, by following this guy and his claims you are running the risk of rejecting Jesus yourself (a premise I don't agree with, but it's what you claim to believe) by not following the pope, it seems to me.

But to go back to MY original line of thinking, if I happened to be a follower of Jesus I suppose based on your theory I'd be rejecting him and his teachings because of my own outspoken problems with the current pope.

But there it is. I've read up on his crimes, and I think he's a bad guy. A very bad guy, in fact. Belongs in jail, frankly.

But that doesn't mean I think Jesus was bad. In fact I think Jesus was a very cool, very holy individual who taught some of the greatest lessons in history.

And I frankly don't think he'd appreciate being associated with folks like this pope right now.

"Mormon since you should be devoted to the pope in terms of the "lines of succession". "

We believe the original church deviated after Jesus Christ's Apostles weren't around. We call this an apostasy. We believe Jesus Christ had to restore his church, thus we call our church a "restoration" church.

I know.

But what if you're wrong?

Then I change, I am not immune to the truth. I was Catholic, Presbiterian, and now LDS. I follow the LDS church because I believe it is true, not because I am a blind fanatic.

I have studied most of what has crossed my path. There are some lines of studies I wont look at just because I don't see the point, but I would never deny anything outright. I believe most belief systems have elements of truth, the thing is I believe the LDS church is the only one that has the totality of the truth.

By their fruits you shall know them. I think all one has to do is look at Joseph Smith's wods and actions to know he wasn't a representative of Jesus Christ.

But I'm glad you guys are admitting that one must believe in Joseph Smith to get to the celestial kingdom - so believing in Jesus is not enough after all.

Not very Christian in my opinion....

This is akin to believing the founding fathers of our country were truly inspired but completely rejecting our government and its laws for two hundred years thereafter only to believe in the "restored" government of Ronald Reagan. If you disavow the vast majority of American history how can you be a patriot? If you disavow the vast majority of the history of Christianity how can you be a Christian?

"Ad hominim.....disappointing but typical. Churro can vouch that I was indeed a missionary - we were in the MTC together."

I was there. We even have pictures together! Good times.

Politics and religion, oh yeah there is two things that mix together well. Just because this is Internet I will tell you I was being sarcastic, they don't mix. Your talking about apples and oranges. I believe what the founding fathers of America wrote was ok, but I don't believe it was perfect. If it was perfect we wouldn't need admendments. I do believe that Jesus Christ's church is perfect and therefore its doctorine's need to be correct.
