"I was there. We even have pictures together! Good times."

Protesting at the gate doesn't really count. :) Ok, that was really being sarcastic.

***I believe what the founding fathers of America wrote was ok, but I don't believe it was perfect.***

Actually, it was pretty amazing. Not perfect, of course, but NOTHING IS PERFECT.

***If it was perfect we wouldn't need admendments.***

Actually, the amendments for the most part pretty much suck.

But considering your argument, it's interesting that you claim Jesus has a "perfect" church and yet your group comes along two millenia later with a bunch of amendments.

You're not making much sense with this argument.

<< it's interesting that you claim Jesus has a "perfect" church and yet your group comes along two millenia later with a bunch of amendments.

That's not how we mean. We don't believe our Church came along to change what Jesus taught. It restored what Jesus originally taught.

We believe that Jesus set up a church, called Apostles and other servants, and taught the real, actual truth by revelation and other means.

But people rejected the apostles, killed them, and after a time God ceased the revelation because of the wickedness of the people. Many good people tried to follow God the best they could, using the Bible and traditions of their fathers, but the teachings and doctrines was amended or changed or misunderstood by mankind from 200 or whatever AD till now. And in 1820 Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith and began to restore his true church.

That's what we honestly believe. Not that Joseph had some good ideas to change up Christianity and started his own church - but that God himself came to restore His church in the latter days, before His second coming.

If that's a fact, wouldn't THAT actually amount to a "second coming"?

Seems like you guys are working on thirds at this point.

Nah, that was just a visit, like when Jesus appeared to Stephen. He didn't come to stay then or in 1820.

Acts 7:55-56
"But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God."

<<And in 1820 Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith and began to restore his true church.>>

And since 1820 the apostles and followers of Joseph Smith went astray and the original teachings of Joseph Smith have been ignored, lost or whatever.

Some day Joseph Smith may reappear and restore his church again the way it originally was set-up and the "Mormons" at that time will reject him.

Sound familiar?

It seems absurd to me to claim the original Christians went astray a couple hundred years after Christ which is why the world needed it to be "restored" while the Mormon Church is radically different now than it was two hundred years ago.

What was the point of it being "restored" when it has changed so much since then?

I know your canned answer is that this is just a benefit of continued revelation. However, why can't the original Christians say the same thing? That their church changed over time because of ongoing revelation?

It just doesn't make sense to me....

<<Nah, that was just a visit, like when Jesus appeared to Stephen. He didn't come to stay then or in 1820.>>

Jesus has appeared many time over the centuries. I was just watching a documentary about a cult in New Mexico that has the messiah with them right now.

He appears in tortillas, tree trunks and clouds so I don't see why he can't show up in a forest.

Of course the original JC predicted many false Christs would come after him, but that doesn't mean anything in the case of Joseph Smith - that was different.

>>Hm, if only people carried an Official Representative of Jesus card. It would make things a lot easier.<<

It's usually in the form of a ring...and a bishop's mitre (the big hat a bishop wears). This is especially so in the office of this guy who wears white and lives in the Vatican. That guy used to wear a really big hat that had three crowns on it.

>>We believe the original church deviated after Jesus Christ's Apostles weren't around. We call this an apostasy. We believe Jesus Christ had to restore his church, thus we call our church a "restoration" church.<<

So Jesus lied when He said that the Holy Spirit would lead the Church into all truth and St. Peter was deluded when he said that the promise of the holy spirit is for all generations.

Okay, got it.

***So Jesus lied when He said that the Holy Spirit would lead the Church into all truth***

Apparently so, given that this church has exhibited horrible corruption since that time.
