These topics are always interesting when they take the form of "As a Mormon, this is what we believe..." and "As a Catholic, this is what we believe..." and "As a Jew, this is what we believe..." etc. Then, even if the reader is not a member of that particular religion, he can still learn something.

When they take the form of "Your religion can not be true, because MY religion says..." or essentially implies that "my belief is better and truer than your belief," then we run into trouble. Kind of like humanity.

"I'm curious...where are the Golden Plates now?"

Don't know, Joseph Smith gave them back to Moroni. We don't know what Moroni did with them but we do know that they are one day going to come back.

<<It did but I pointed it out to demonstate that there are times when the God's church was not on the earth. That time however was not an apostasy, even though God's church fell away there were still a few that were dedicated enough to continue priesthood authority>>

Well, isn't that why Jesus came? To set things in order? And god's "church" at the time was called judaism. They were the chosen people into which Jesus was born.

I dunno, using the whole church thing to describe those times sounds a bit weird to me. Square peg, round hole if you ask me.

I like Dabob's point in 171.

And we're getting an awful lot of that at this point.

The ex-mormons trashing the mormons, the catholics trashing the mormons and the protestents (wonder what their view on the Jews and the Muslims is?), the mormons trashing the catholics...wow.

agreed this thread was railroaded way past my original inquiry anyhow, this will be my last post in this thread.

I am disappointed.

This was a thread initiated by an in-your-face Mormon (he uses the term "Elder" in his name for pete's sake) wanting to know people's definition of Christianity. In my opinion, it was an invititation to discuss what is or is NOT a Christian. Clearly I was wrong.

People have differing opinions - sometimes very strong ones. And I am certainly one of those. I wish there were others who offered up their opinions but very few did.

Because of my background, I feel an obligation to speak up when Mormons say certain things. Very few people outside of that religion understands the nitty gritty of what they actually believe in. I think I do. I grew up in the church, served a mission, went to the temple countless times, got married in the temple, studied the religion deeply and left it.

I personally feel that it is a dangerous religion for several reasons, not the least of which is its masquerading as a Christian religion. I truly believe the Mormon faith is a wolf in sheep's clothing and I will unapologetically speak out anytime a Mormon proclaims they are a Christian.

I have no particular faith and I am not trying to tell anyone what they should believe. Mormons can believe anything they want - they just can't call themselves Christian.

You can buy a fake Louis Vuitton bag in China for about $20. It looks like the real thing but it's not. People justify buying them because they want to look good without paying the $800 for a real bag. However, it does a terrible disservice to the company that makes the original bag who prides themselves in making a superior product. It damages them and their profitability. Now imagine a store opening up calling themselves a Louis Vuitton Outlet selling the fake bags as real ones and you will understand what Mormonism is.

Some people don't have problems buying fakes. I do.

May this thread rest in peace.

Hm, I would never say that Elderp has ever been in anyone's face about his religion. I've been a constant poster on LP for the past 4 years and I didn't know he went to the church of LDS until just recently.

"I personally feel that it is a dangerous religion for several reasons, not the least of which is its masquerading as a Christian religion."

Just curious, but why do you see the Mormon faith as more dangerous than any of the other Christian religions. I think all of them are dangerous in their own ways - even Catholicism, which I was brought up in. I realize that you have some bad feelings towards the Mormon faith, but is it really any worse than any of the others? And if so, why?

It does sort of have a cultish vibe to it. I could see that being more dangerous, at least from a mental health angle.

So do alot of the smaller Christian churches. When I was in high school I used to go to a friend's youth group at a non-denominational Christian church, and believe me, those people were pretty cultish. They used to tell them how they should only be friends with other Christians and things like that. Very strange.
