^ BTW I will say in that we are a bit different in that we believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three seperate and distinct personages. They are all a part of what we believe to be the Godhead (also known as the trinity). So I can believe that for some people being a Christian means believing only in Jesus Christ because they believe those three people are the same thing. It is a hard concept for me to believe, because that would mean Jesus Christ was talking to himself when he was praying and when he was on the cross (sounds wierd to me), but I acknoweledge some people believe that.

I think a Christian is anyone who chooses to believe that Jesus Christ was divine. So while I have a pretty broad definition of "Christian" I would not consider someone a Christian who (like myself) is inspired by the teachings of Jesus, but who rejects his divinity.

I find it appalling that Evangelicals attempt to hijack the term "Christian" and apply it to those who only think like them theologically. I think anyone who wants to believe in the divinity of Jesus has every right to take the label "Christian" on themselves. To use an analogy I used before, it's a bit like telling someone who likes the IASW changes that they aren't really a Disneyland fan. Those of us on LP shouldn't be able to create a criteria and then say anyone who doesn't fit it isn't a true Disneyland fan. Same thing goes for the label of Christian.

(And, sorry josh and Elderp, it goes for anyone who wants to take on the label Mormon, including the kooks in Texas. Otherwise, it's just a double-standard.)

Funny thing is I don't want the title of "Mormon." I think it is a degrading taunt some antiLDS hillbillies gave the LDS church about 178 years ago because we didn't fit their definition of "Christian." I am starting to think the common definition of "Christian" is to be self absorbed exclusive. Not my definition, but I am willing to be proven wrong (I hope I am proven wrong).

I wish people were allowed to believe whatever they wanted (as long as it doesn't hurt others). Not that it is ever going to happen, not at least until Jesus Christ comes back.

On the most basic level...a person who believes in the statements in the Nicene Creed, whether they can recite it or not. Additionally, a person who lives out what Christ taught.

Shouldn't anyone who follows Christ as a savior be called a Christian?

Any someone who follows the Nicene creed an nicenien or something?

To me a christian can be many things. It could be something that goes on a survey because you culturally come from a christian community. Or it could be someone who believes in Christ as son of god and saviour of our sins. And there is a range in between.

to me, Christians have great intentions, and are capable of much love. I am kind of jealous of them, for they have almost an inner peace in many wayd. On the other hand I feel sorry for them as I feel a great many are close minded.

So I have many people I adore that I feel sorry for, as I feel they are close minded. And I am sure they pray for me and feel sorry for me, for not accepting Christ as my lord. But we both love and respect each other, and for me, that is enough.

God bless you folks (I do often mean this, kind of like when Han Solo says "May the Force be with You" to Luke, not necessarily meaning it to his self, but respecting the belief of the person he loves).

In general I believe anyone who believes in Jesus Christ to be a Christian, but I have to say Catholics have the most right for exclusivity of the term. In the Catholics mind (or at least in my mind when I was Catholic), the Catholic church is the ancient church that Jesus Christ himself established when he gave authority to Peter. The Catholic church (as I understand it) believes that this authority was never broken and that everyone else who says they believe in Christ is basically on the wrong track. The LDS believe there was an apostasy (falling away) and the true church was reestablished.

In my opinion either the LDS church is right or the Catholic church is right. I have placed my faith in the LDS church but I can understand the Catholic position (at least a little better than I can see the Protestant position).

***It isn't like anyone has the ability to read minds so you have no idea what I believe.***

And it's even more baffling when you're talking about a group that keeps lots of secrets. ;)

Ok, interesting. What if they do this (without that intention) and were born muslim, or Hindu? Or what if they purport to do this but only show some love and some compassion towards some people, but go to church every sunday?
