Adam did die. He lost sanctifying grace and all the preternatural gifts.

And Even foreshadowing of the New Eve, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Adam is foreshadowing of Christ, who restored mankind to grace.

Both/and...a very important tool in understanding theology. The story of Adam and Eve is literally true and it's also full of meaning.

mele, I didn't mean to start a scripture argument. I really thought you wanted to hear my opinion, and that is all I was sharing, my opinion.

Which is why I'm studying law and not theology ;) I know those basic points but not in that much depth...not even close.

Oh, I know, DF. :-) I don't know nearly enough about the Bible to have an argument about scriptures. I couldn't quote it w/o researching them. Thank goodness for the internet! And thank you for sharing your opinion. It's always interesting to hear what other people believe/think. :-)

***The story of Adam and Eve is literally true***

Using terms like "I think" or "I believe" is very helpful here.

That way I can't say stuff like Paley, that's ridiculous and not a word of it is true. It's an utter fairy tale and nothing more. In fact, it's worse since what that story describes is complete fantasy like super long lived people and talking snakes and whatnot, where at least SOME fairy tales are plausible and have some basis in reality.

Notice how Mr X insults a person's beliefs so enthusiastically.

I just state what the Church teaches, nothing more. I don't call Mr X a fool (which, according to the Bible (Ps 14 and Ps 53), I could) yet he can, with impugnity, call what I believe a fairy tale.

Hmmm...double standard much, Mr X?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that since I seem unable to log in anymore I've been banned because Paley complained.

Assuming that's true, I'll just say this.

I didn't insult your beliefs. I replied to your supposed statement of *fact* by saying that certainly not everyone feels that way. It's not a fact. It's just what you (based on what you are told) believe.

Sorry, but that's *my* belief and I'm as entitled to is as you are to yours, no matter how silly I might think it is.

So, there you have it. I guess I've been banned for my own beliefs that such statements are really, really silly because they have no basis whatsoever in logic (like talking snakes, for example, or 900 year old men).

See ya.

What double standard?

I'm not insulting YOU personally, I think the religions are barking up the wrong tree. I don't buy it. I don't believe it's true.

I'm no more "insulting" your beliefs than I would be insulting someone who insisted there was a pink unicorn in the room and I said "no, I don't believe you, there's no such thing as unicorns".

To insult, I would have to say "I BELIEVE in your god, and I think he's a jerk". That's an insult.

For me to say I don't believe it, it's the same as any other fairy tale, is just a statement of fact, not an insult.

(okay, maybe people take offense at the term "fairy tale", but how else do you describe a made up story with fantastical elements?)
