... and I juuuuust watched that video!

And here I'd thought they'd let us down. A Friday without more IASW fun from Disney?

Not so, sir. We have a video!

The "official" version can be found here, as can a whole page featuring close-up photos of the characters and their locations.

http://park.hongkongdisneyland...dex.html

And here I was, trying to convince people that the original message would be subtly shifted to a game of "find the Disney character."

Looks like I was wrong. Subtle? Har. Turns out it was the whole point to the thing all along. So much for "staying true to the original intent."

Of course, it's sort of hard to stay true to the original intent when you don't even know the basics of the attraction's history, as the narrator of the video apparently doesn't:

>>"Walt Disney himself created the original It's a Small World for Disneyland in 1966."<<

Whaaaa??

<<"it's a great big beautiful homogenized theme park experience, after all">>

If they want to keep it from looking old, maybe they need to add a porcelain deer. ;P

"Just Disneyland's most loyal customers .. that's all.

sort of like us."

Hmm, I'm pretty sure back in 1975, the average Disney guest, didn't scrutinize and study, discuss and argue over every single little change the parks were making, down to simple replanting of flowers or a missing show scene element.

Plus I partially blame the decline of Disney by these internet communities. I don't know how or why, I just know they have had more of a negative impact on Disney than a positive.

<<>>"Walt Disney himself created the original It's a Small World for Disneyland in 1966."<<

Whaaaa??>>

It's not a misstatement. Yes, I know IASW was created for the '64, World's Fair, but 1.) The DL ride was slightly different from World's Fair version, and 2.) DL's IASW is "the original" compared to the other four versions around the world.

<<WilliamK99: Speaking out is fine and dandy, but companies don't give a damn about the customer until it starts affecting their financial numbers, and I am speaking for all companies here, not just Disney.>>

Well, companies DO respond to those who speak out. And they will respond if it looks like it MAY affect them financially. Disney does not like bad publicity. And the longer a negative issue is being spoken about, ESPECIALLY if it has hit the mainstream press, the more likely they will take steps to eliminate the problem.

Currently, the steps Disney has taken involved corporate spokespersons coming out in defense of their moves. Unfortunately, that tactic has only inflamed many. They did that for DCA too. It took them five years, but they FINALLY admitted DCA's flaws and are taking steps to correct that park's shortcomings.

While you may feel you are speaking for all companies, it appears more obvious, based on the content of your posts, that you are, more than likely, actually speaking specifically for DISNEY.

<<WilliamK99: I am disgusted by the Padres performance this year, so I am not going to any games or buying any merchandise until they improve. Same thing with Disney, if you are disgusted with the product, don't spend money on them.>>

Well, that really says something about your concept of loyalty. The Padres probably do their best, but there are numerous EXTERNAL elements that can have an effect on their overall performance. While they may not always be successful, their whole intent is to put as much effort as possible into beating the other teams. But the competition may have just been able to build up stronger teams. Not every team can be the best all the time. But you are saying that all fans should totally abandon their teams if they are not performing? If that were so, there would be very few sports fans.

The Cubs fans show what REAL loyalty is. They stuck it out even during all the disappointing years. If they were disappointed with the team's performance, they MADE THAT KNOWN, but they didn't abandon them.

Well, there's a GOOD chance that back in the decades past, Disneyland's management wasn't so intent on diminishing the creative quality of the park's attractions. As I recall, everyone looked forward the changes of the next year because everything that was introduced was going to be NEW and EXCITING, well worth the wait. Oh, there were the occasional failures, but they didn't last very long did they?

<<Plus I partially blame the decline of Disney by these internet communities. I don't know how or why, I just know they have had more of a negative impact on Disney than a positive.>>

I certainly wouldn't want to see what would have happened to Disneyland under Pressler if there HADN'T been the internet. And Eisner would probably still be running Disney into the ground.

Actually the Front Office is where the problem lies, and I am loyal, just won't financially support the team until Kevin Towers gets off his ass and does something about our closer situation and offensive offense.

There is a big difference between supporting something and then financially supporting them, I don't buy tickets to the game, won't buy merchandise, but will still watch them on TV.

<<Disneyland's management wasn't so intent on diminishing the creative quality of the park's attractions.>>

Regardless of which side you're on, let's be fair here. As a company, Disney's intention is not to diminish anything except losses to the bottom line. You may not agree with the creative direction, but that doesn't mean they are actively trying to make a bad product.

<<Cubs fans show what REAL loyalty is. They stuck it out even during all the disappointing years. If they were disappointed with the team's performance, they MADE THAT KNOWN, but they didn't abandon them.>>

Does this mean that you'll be a Disney fan regardless of what they do, that you're continue to patronize the company even if you think there is absolutely no hope of a recovery?

When I hear people say that "this is the last straw!" I get the strong impression that most here don't really mean it. Sure, for some fans it might be... they give up and never come back. But for the rest, they're just expressing dissatisfaction about this or that. Soon, enough, Disney will come up with something fantastic, and all this commotion will be forgotten and set aside. Then the cycle will start all over again when Disney makes another seemingly foolish move.

It's the circle of life, my friends.
