And in the words of Mufasa (currently appearing in an IASW not so near you)
"Remember who you are"!!!

"What'd you do that for?" |

Yup. I suppose that we internet fan site members are probably looked upon as kooks. In the end we are a small minority, and even if we all boycotted it would be just a blip on Disney's attendance radar. Now if overall attendance dropped 10% and focus groups revealed that it was because of the cartooning of the park, then all heck would break loose in the TDA building.

This must be a sign of the Apocalype. I agree with WilliamK!

| oc_dean Mon 4/28/2008 9:44p | ^^^I know it's easy to ridicule and trivialize all this ... but some of us recognize how perfect the original designers got with this ride .. and how it resonates to some of us .. and why we are so outraged by the current mindset at Disney.
This does not add to the attraction .. Nor do I see it as a net-0. It's a minus.
I don't care what imagineer comes forth and try to tell us ... They got the artistic sense all in hand .... I think they are all too engrossed into Heavy Saturation mode when it comes to the Disney Brand of characters.
I feel very few if any have any objectivity.
This is more than just Tarzan invading the Tree House ... or a pirates Island set in the Mid West frontier circa 1855, or a talking fish in Tomorrowland, ..... This has got to me one of the most well loved attractions "on Earth". To coin a phrase.
The original message/theme is perfect.
They are messing with it ........
and with that ... It's for the first time a painful process to see a 40 year old masterpiece created by first generation imagineers watered down into a commercial for the Disney Characters.
This time ...... this is sad ..... and for those with a "I never liked the attraction in the first place" bias ... keep your cynical views.
Some of us really love it ... and every ride is a constant reminder of how utterly perfect some attractions are ...... or in this possible case: Were. |

| leobloom Mon 4/28/2008 10:05p | oc_dean...does that stand for obsessive compulsive? Just teasing, man. But in all seriousness, if you don't like the direction Disney's going with its parks, perhaps it's time to take up another hobby?
You don't have to be beholden to a corporation that is interested primarily in turning a profit. You can rage against the Mouse Machine! Take up tennis or snorkeling or go read Absalom, Absalom. It's not worth the effort to rage against WDI. Really. Life ain't that long, especially for those of us who aren't employed there. |

I don't see anyone ridiculing or trivializing your position. If anything, the majority posting in this thread agree with you.
<<I feel very few if any have any objectivity.>>
I kinda feel you have lost your objectivity.
<<The original message/theme is perfect.>>
Personally, I don't think the message or theme will be damaged; putting characters in won't change how I feel about the ride.
<<It's for the first time a painful process to see a 40 year old masterpiece created by first generation imagineers watered down into a commercial for the Disney Characters.>>
In my way of thinking, it is no different than any other of the major attractions, and has always been commercialized by Disney in one way or another. The IASW dolls themselves are "Disney characters."
<<Some of us really love it>>
Some of us on the other side really love it too, and feel the changes are not bad.

Maybe I should have stated this a different way: It's easy to write this off .. and just chalk it up to just any other idea - Like any other Disney has put forth - end of story.
<<I feel very few if any have any objectivity.>>
I kinda feel you have lost your objectivity.
Over what specifically? That I'm not open minded enough to sticking out-of-place characters (to just anywhere).. by trying to MAKE THEM FIT .. as anyone pleases?
I've been trying to have an intelligent discussion on how 'out of place' this scheme is. And if you are willing to dismiss any one of my comments go ahead. While you're at it .. go say the same to me .. as any of these guys have: http://imagineerebirth.blogspo...aks.html

I think you missed my point .... but as Emily Latila puts it - never mind.
