>>But in all seriousness, if you don't like the direction Disney's going with its parks, perhaps it's time to take up another hobby?<<

Dude .. just a little fyi ... I have more hobbies than I have time for. Disneyland for me though (and no different than any one of millions) will always have a special place in my heart forever.

Disneyland is comprised of many experiences that touch the human soul in more ways than I think some people give credit .. or even recognize.

'it's a small world' is one of those "always special to my heart" components to Disneyland that stands out farther than most other attractions.

It's more brilliantly crafted than I think some people realize.

And nobody else can do anything like 'it's a small world' anywhere else on Earth .. and probably never will.

And once you start doing "plastic surgery" that does not work with it's artistic direction ... that "something special you held close to" in a way becomes lost.

<<Over what specifically?>>

It's just my opinion. You seem VERY disturbed by this proposed change, and it seems out of proportion TO ME.

<<I've been trying to have an intelligent discussion on how 'out of place' this scheme is>>

And I've been trying to have an intelligent discussion from the perspective of the middle and the other side.

<<I think you missed my point>>

Did I? You feel like the only reason they are adding the characters is for commercial purposes. I don't. Sure, it obviously does allow them to make plush or whatever, but I don't think that is the driving factor.

If all letters the studio, TDA, imagineering receive do little to nothing to reach them ........ then those who at least tried to make them understand ... Can say .. well, I tried.

And to bring this full circle .....

the longer no one in the company comes forth to give any real explanation as to how these characters really add to the 'it's a small world' experience ... the more it makes me realize they have no reason! Or they've just decided to take a swipe against the many adoring Disneyland fans who do care, and would like an explanation.

And perhaps many readers on these various websites may have become deffensive to some heated passion ...... Then imagineering of all departments at Disney would actually have a little empathy for those who do care so much.

They should understand that .. because you don't work for WDI unless you are someone who really cares.

That's at least the WDI I knew of the 80s and partially in the 90s.

OC I felt the same love for Disney, but I really have given up. I really didn't enjoy my last 3 Disney vacations because of how Disney is run these days. I haven't been to DLR since 2002 and WDW 2006. As of now I have no plans of visiting any Disney resort.
I guess that I am just fed up with skyrocketing prices, declining offerings, and the grotesque money grubbing.

At least one other person here who has expressed much the same opinions as yourselff has said that he is not writing letters or anything else. I'd be curious to see some real numbers on who is really that passionate about IASW.

You darn right I am!

This time ......
this one truly takes the cake!

I thought Barbosa and Sparrow in PotC was bad .. but at least they work within the context of the ride.

>>and it seems out of proportion TO ME. <<

Maybe to you ....
but not to me.

I care what's going on!

And to those who prefer a more laxxed look at this .. go ahead.

The world is made up of all kinds of people. People who really care, to semi care, to not care at all.

"You feel like the only reason they are adding the characters is for commercial purposes. I don't."

If it wasn't a commercial impetus, please explain the artistic impetus. As I am appearently too stupid to figure out how Stitch and Buzz elaborate on the theme of "Global Harmony as can be seen in the innocent eyes of children." There is an artistic impetus as to why ALL the dolls are children. There is an artistic impetus as to why all the dolls are homogenous. Those two artistic implications are in fact destroyed. Is Woody a child? Was Woody ever a child? Is Woody in anyway homogenous to the other dolls.

The question is though, do you care enough to walk away from it, or are you like the dyed-in-wool sportsteam fan who will complain but keep going to the games? Is this *really* the last straw, or are you blowing smoke?

From the official website for the ride, and the pictures for each character...

"Mowgli: The mancub who lives out of place in the jungle."

I know it's one thing to have out of place Disney characters in the ride, but when the characters are out of place in their environment in the films they represent, doesn't that mean that they really really really don't belong in the ride? It seems the folks at WDI seem to realize that it doesn't fit. They just don't care.

For years you have heard me gripe about DCA ... and guess what .. I've hardly gone at all. And I've said it periodically here ... in case you hadn't notice.

In the case of 'its a small world' .. I'm hoping to get on the ride in Jan 2009 .. to a vastly cleaned up facility .. working set pieces ... new ceiling panels .. and some other TASTEFUL improvements .. and hoping the ride will be without a single Disney character!

And dude, you don't have to counter-act my post with "they are doing it" .. I'm holding my breath on this one.

It AINT etched into stone yet.
