Seriously, to me, all this passion over an aging boat ride at a theme park is kind of disturbing. And before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, like I said, this is only MY OPINION.

Well, if you want to call someone wanting WDI to hold up to a higher standard "disturbing" .. go right ahead. I don't care.
It's just a discussion board around here ...hoping there are some people who CARE just as much as I do with an entertainment co. unlike any other on Earth, hoping they don't start straddling off into a mediocre company with lower standards.

| oc_dean Tue 4/29/2008 11:41p | On to a slightly different subject ....
(As another poster thinks I have no other life other than LP):
I drove over to the site of Americana @ Brand. It's the new Entertainment Complex opening up this Friday in Glendale. Just from the outside .. and even though this is just basically ... and entertainment MALL .. the detail is AMAZING.
And during my walk outside the perimeter, I ran into a former imagineer Aaron Haus .. I beleive his name is .... And we talked a bit about the high standard they've created.
As his boss Rick Caruso created something with elegance .. and not a "cheap shot" like adding Disney characters in to sell more plush.
I call Rick Caruso the "Walt Disney" for a newer form of Entertainment Mall .. that goes beyond just your 'every day' mall.
A fun evening .... and the city of Glendale is about to get a huge shot in the arm for tourism! |

I disagree and am really getting tired of those opposing the changes, calling those that support the changes "less of a Disney fan" |

What I'm trying to get across is that it doesn't have to be one or the other. It's entirely possible to have great respect for the theme of iasw AND not be opposed to this change, as long as it's done right (and we won't really see that till it opens).
>Well, if you want to call someone wanting WDI to hold up to a higher standard "disturbing" .. go right ahead.<
And there's the problem in a nutshell. You, oc_dean, are firmly convinced that this change is an example of the lowering of standards within the Disney company. While I don't deny that this lowering has occurred in the past, I just don't see this as being one of those times.
It's one thing for 2 sides to argue about the change - that's healthy, and fun, too. It's quite another for your side to label my side as not caring, having lesser sentiments and instincts, and allowing Disney to ignore its long held standards of quality. That's the thing that gets me smoking. We'll probably always disagree on the iasw refurb. But my love of the parks and my knowledge of Disney history and my desire to hold Disney's nose to the grindstone are equally as strong as yours, dean.

| TMICHAEL Wed 4/30/2008 6:16a | ...and all this talk from the OP about the lowering of the Disney standards. Since when is tweaking and plussing an aging attraction, with full 3 dimentional figures that fit with the theme and style of the original attraction, a lowering of standards?
I could get behind a bit of negativity if all this was about painted flats or static "Disney Store" figurines, but its not. Everything we have seen from the Hong Kong version is on par with what is already in Small World.

Just for the record, I don't think the two are connected. There are plenty of huge Disney fans who thought "The Little Mermaid II" was just swell. |
