I disagree with you, it is sexual. Naked, wrapped in a sheet, even only showing your back has a sexual inuendo. And I'm sorry, but there are a lot of perverts who are going to enjoy that picture far too much!

Okay Ron Howard. So our list of 'Child Stars Who Aren't Screwed Up As Adults' rises to a whopping 2.

<Seriously though, From what I heard Billy Ray didn't want Miley to be in show business, but from growing up around the industry, and having Dolly as god-mother/role model/ coach it was something she really wanted to do. There is a big differance in "putting your kids to work" and "allowing your kids to work".>

'Allowing your kids to work'??? In what other industry is that allowed?

As for Billy Ray and Dolly...they could have easily said 'No Miley, you'll have to wait until you're 18.'

My daughter got irritated with me a year or so ago [she was 11] because I 'wouldn't make some phone calls' and help her out with her 'career' in the entertainment industry.

You can justify it all you want. Parents do. Casting people do. Show Biz icons do. Bottom line -- kids really shouldn't be in show business.

"To put this into perspective, at the age of 12, Brooke Shields actually went topless in a movie."

Oh yeah, the Blue Lagoon. We are definitly a more conservative and judgemental society now than we were back in 1980. Thank You Ronnie.

In fairness, there are more than two child actors who grew up to be successful.

But mind you, they are successful in terms of the entertainment industry. This doesn't translate to success in relationships, or happiness, etc.

Furthermore, how many child stars have we lost track of that are drunk in a gutter somewhere? A majority are probably living happy, normal lives. But plenty aren't. Go read that article I linked to for a perfect example of a child star that was forgotten. No one even knew Bobby Driscoll had died until the re-release of Song of the South when reporters went looking for him.

Just think about all the TV shows and movies you've seen. Do you know where all the kids are or how they're doing? I sure don't. I'm willing to bet plenty of them aren't doing so hot, long since forgotten by Hollywood.

dshyates - are you so liberal that you think it's okay for a 12 year old girl to go topless in a movie??
Do you have a daughter?

I have no problem with children who have the desire to act to do so - I do have a problem with the amount they do work -

How much time to be a kid to these children on tv get to just be a kid? How many hours are they working each day?

Movies are different - I don't know why when there are so many children acting these days for some children to make so many movies each year - for example
Dakota Fanning - she has 5 movies done this year, 19 movies since 2001
Abigail Breslin - 12 movies since 2004 - 3 this year.
Spenser Breslin - 13 movies
Elle Fanning - 12 movies - 6 this year...

When do the movie kids have time to be kids - Are there not limits?

Funny how it was a news event when Dakota was able to fullfill her dream of being a girl scout -

<<To put this into perspective, at the age of 12, Brooke Shields actually went topless in a movie.

Nowadays people would flip out if a 12 year old went topless in a movie....<<

Actually, some of them have flipped out over less. A couple of years ago, Dakota Fanning was in a movie called Hounddog where her character was raped. To hear the conservative talkshow hosts like Laura Ingraham, she literally was raped.

As for the Miley flap, I'm not real comfortable with the solo pictures, but the one of her and her dad unnerved me even more. It looked like a pose for lovers, not for father & daughter. Maybe if they'd both been smiling, it would have looked different.

Bottom line -- kids really shouldn't be in show business.<<

A few kids are able to get through it and go on and have regular lives. Fewer still are able to make the jump from child star to adult actor.

But in reality, the odds are about as good that a kid could make it running across 8 lanes of traffic. Some kids will make it. But it's a hell of a risk.
