Topic: How crowded is CROWDED?

Here's a question...

At Disneyland, is it ever so crowded that you see lines 40-50 people deep or more for something as simple as a snack cart?

This is something I noticed in Tokyo yesterday, and was going to write about it but first I wanted to check in with the DL regulars and find out if this phenomenon ever occurs there. I'm quite sure I've never seen it in Florida (a resort I've been to quite frequently).

So, long lines for rides aside, does the Anaheim resort ever get so busy that people will wait an hour for a popcorn?

My theory is that Americans (or many non-Japanese in general lol) will see a line that is just "too much", like maybe 10-15 people, and then just skip it til later rather than line up. In Japan, everyone just hops on in no matter HOW ridiculously long the lines are (which makes things worse).

I don't think Americans would have that kind of patience, especially since we basically invented fast-food. If there were the kind of lines at DLR or WDW like at TDR, there would be massive complaints.

FWIW, I did stand in line at the gyoza sausage cart at TDS for an insane amount of time; I forget how long now. This was back during the grand opening.

Okay, I just reread what I wrote, and it doesn't make sense, even to me. LOL. Our carts are mostly self-regulating; we don't keep jumping into an ODV cart line to the point where they are as long as the ones in Tokyo.

Why do the Japanese do that anyway? It seems like there is some "ritual" tied to it... I get the impression that standing in the long lines for some of the snacks is almost a badge of honor.

One New Years Eve back in the late 90's.

45 minutes from the Tiki Room to the main entrance of Plaza Inn.

So you have seen something like that once, Dave? I guess it's fair to say that's a once in a blue moon sort of thing then. Unfortunately it's all too frequent in Tokyo. I realized yesterday that it's not the crowds or even the long lines for rides in Tokyo that makes it feel SO different, but the little things like that which make the place seem overrun with people.

***Our carts are mostly self-regulating; we don't keep jumping into an ODV cart line to the point where they are as long as the ones in Tokyo.***

Yeah, that was sort of my theory too. People think "let's get a churro", and then walk over and see a long line and say "okay, skip the churro. let's get something else".

***Why do the Japanese do that anyway? It seems like there is some "ritual" tied to it... I get the impression that standing in the long lines for some of the snacks is almost a badge of honor.***

Sometimes seems that way, eh? Especially with that silly gyoza cart (they were good, but not THAT good, and why waste 2 hours when you can walk 30 feet and purchase some other snack within 5 minutes!?).

I feel like some of it is those obsessive types that start jamming up the lines in the first place (like the people who wait for a show like FOUR hours early, even though there is no line to speak of, just for the honor of heading to the seats first...ugh), but then it sort of just becomes something unavoidable.

Like I got in line for a snack which was very long, but I just sorta shrugged and hopped in KNOWING that it would be the same everywhere else anyway (however, I'd skipped several lines along the way and finally queued up at a line which seemed "relatively" shorter, not even caring what snack I was buying at that point lol).

The Plaza Inn doesn't count... it's a scramble service restaurant, not an ODV cart. People are much more willing to wait longer for a real meal.

>>>>scramble service <<<<

It was a scramble just to the main gate of the Plaza Inn.
