Ah.

I didn't figure he'd venture in here.

What a jerk. Good luck to the admins on that one, and hope Doobie doesn't just shut down the whole boards idea out of frustration!

To get back to the topic at hand ... we were there NYE 2006 (going into 2007). As we passed an incredibly long churro line someone quipped next Disney will have a FP line for the churros.

We didn't stand in the line, but it could have easily been 30 deep as it stretched through the Tomorrowland spoke off the hub (from TL to the hub).

NJ, thanks for the comment.

Once again, that sort of proves my thesis that what might be a "once in a blue moon" event elsewhere is more commonplace at TDL (for whatever reasons).

Isn't is just so WEIRD to see that though?

I saw it yesterday and thought to myself right away (for the first time, for some reason), THIS is why the whole Tokyo scene is so weird.

Not so much because it occurred, because as NJ and Dave wrote it is possible anywhere, BUT because it's so darned commonplace.

For the record, yesterday was busy but NOT insanely busy (insanely busy is when the lines for Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain intersect...anyone who knows the layout of TDL can see where that is just, well, amazing).

And the blue moon rises on Thanksgiving Day! ElderP has stories of going once on Thanksgiving day, like ten years ago. Apperntly it was so packed that they were walking arround shoulder to shoulder, EVERYWHERE. I have to imagine, on a day like that the lines for the churrros were pretty long. :)

I've done shoulder to shoulder (often in Tokyo...a couple times at the Magic Kingdom in Florida).

I've no doubt ElderP experienced that as well in Anaheim!

It's not much fun (well, in a weird way, it CAN be fun with the right mindset like we had yesterday...we left the park for a couple of hours for a relaxing lunch and that helped a LOT).

Mr X, your post is interesting. I've never noticed the huge lines for ODV in Disneyland, not even on the 50th anniversary. That day, we brought in some La Brea bread and cheese, no way were we going to stand in those lines :)

trekkeruss, I didn't understand the self regulating thing but now I do. The lines may be there but I just wouldn't stand in them. I liken it to "Discovery Kingdom" in N CA. I feel like having pizza but there are 15 people in that line, so I head for the corndog line that has 5 people queued up. We also have been known to just blow off the whole meal and eat the granola bar in my backpack :)

Do we have an "there is always tomorrow" attitude or do we just not care? Interesting.

A new "game" to play in DLR, notice the lines for the ODV carts and would I stand in them :)

A Patience American?

I don't know, I've never seen one. Perhaps they are waiting some where... ;-)

Okay, I looked up a postig I made on USENET about my experience with the gyoza sausage bun on September 5th, 2001. These were my comments:

"The fervor over the gyoza sausage bun apparently started when it was sampled by famous Japanese celebrities when TDSea was still in preview,
because the line at that wagon [which is situated within Mysterious Island] was loooooong on the very first day the park was open to the public. I was so intrigued by what everyone was standing in line for,
that I knew that I *must* try one. But I figured I would try at the end of the day...surely the line would have diminished by then, right?

WRONG! As a matter of fact, they a CM at the end of the queue to prevent further guests from getting in line! I would not be denied though...I got in line the next day. I waited 25 minutes to receive my
sausage buns...I bought two, just in case they were *really* good.

Well, after all that, I thought were just OK. They didn't taste anything like a gyoza...they just looked like giant version of real one. The bun was soft and sorta mushy, as was the "sausage" filling. Of all
the food I had at TDSea, I would say this was perhaps the least tasty thing I had!

BTW, just as the Travel Channel film crew did, I took a picture and video of the queue. I thought it was hysterical that a hundred+ people were waiting in line at a freakin' snack wagon, and even funnier was seeing it again on national television."

I think there were at least 30+ people in line for Dole products outside of the Tiki Room yesterday. It was hotter than hell there yesterday (and the 3 days before).

Two thoughts struck me:

If there's a huge line at one churro cart, my reaction might be "Let's try the next one." There are so many ODV locations, it doesn't make sense to wait at one, since the next one is likely to have a shorter line.

Also, it's very easy to bring in snacks from outside the park. If there were truly an hours-long wait for popcorn, the savvy guest might decide that it would be faster to exit the park, buy a snack, and return.

What both of these say to me is that the food inside DL (and DCA) isn't special. It's just food, no better than what you can get at the 7-11 down the block.
