Hi there, this is our first time going to Disney with our kids (4yrs and 6mos) and we are pretty nervous! One of my many questions is do you tip the cleaning staff in the hotel? In the Caribbean and Mexico we would leave $1 -$2 for the cleaning lady on the night table - do we do that in Disney too???

Hello CMom. This has been discussed frequently on LP. In general there are as many tippers as non-tippers on this site. It is probably a personal decision and since you have tipped in the past it has been recommended to tip on a daily basis rather than the final day. I personally always tipped in the past but lately Not at all!!! I just stayed at the Best Western Park Place in ANaheim and then transferred to the Grand Californian. Honestly felt the room was fresher(recently updated) at the BWPP. Also the mattresses were more comfortable there. Many other reasons for not being impressed with the Grand this trip. Overall I find myself wondering about the carpets and clean sheets, etc, everywhere I just do not tip. I also stayed at the Embassy Suites at LAX and noticed poor housekeeping. It is really not easy for me to not tip. I know the staff is working hard. I guess I should be punishing the Corporation and not the housekeeping. Does anybody else have any thoughts about tipping and my personal conflict? I really do not like being a non-tipper person!!!

I think it's a good idea to leave a tip. Who knows maybe they'd fold a towel to look like Mickey or something.

Having worked in the hotel business I can tell you that I do tip bellhops, the housekeeping staff, and the concierge (if I use that service). I keep it at about $2 when I travel alone. Maybe a little more if the entire family comes along (and there is more to clean).

I seem to recall Disney justifying the extra service fee on hotel bills as "it was part of a fund for hotel staff to receive a yearly bonus or something.Does anybody else remember that? Anyway $2per night does not seem like very much in relation to the cost of a room per night and the expected 15-20 for restaurant staff. I think it is a lot harder to clean a toilet and make a bed than to bring a plate of food to my table. I guess I am talking myself back in to being a "tipping person" You are right wahoo skipper a tip is a good idea. I should not punish the hard working staff because management is overworking them and overcharging the customer.

I always tip housekeeping somewhere between $2 and $5 per day depending on level of service.

Depending on accommodations and where you chose to eat, a Disney vacation can cost anywhere from $500 - $1,000 per day. An extra $2 - $5 for housekeeping is barely noticeable to me, but much appreciated by housekeeping.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
