***Suicide is a selfish act.***

I'm sorry for your loss.

But I disagree. It's not a selfish act, it's a desperately insane act of desperation.

You should try to let go of your anger. Your loved one couldn't help it.

how very sad ! we were staying there just last weekend, i feel for his family, no one knows what goes on in a persons mind, some times something just snaps. it's not for us to judge any way, all we can do is keep his family in our prayers and know that this very troubled person is at peace. this has happened in our family more than once and yes it's awful for all of us but think how awful the person must have felt inside that he would feel that's the way out ? as i said before, a person sometimes just snaps inside ,and we can't judge him when we don't know all the details, god bless him and his family.

I agree that it isn't a selfish act. Depression is an illness. I'm sure this person was not himself when he decided to take his life.

I should have added that I do also agree that it's unfortunate for the family and friends left behind. It's a terrible tragedy. I'm very sorry for your loss dlkozy.

Yes it is. Unless you have walked the walk-you have no idea-you are guessing.

To commit suicide in a public place, with no regard as to who might witness it, or be injured/killed themselves is selfish.

>>"You should try to let go of your anger"<<< Thank you Dr Phil.

I have a relative who committed suicide with a gun where his sons (twins aged 16 and another son aged 20) would find him. As terrible and horrifying as it was and still is, I refuse to believe that he did it because he was being selfish. The depths of his mental illness were such that he was not thinking clearly at the time he committed suicide. Most people are not thinking clearly or rationally at the time of a suicide. I am so sorry that you went through such a terrible ordeal. After studying a lot about suicide and mental illness and having lost a very close loved one to suicide I still do not think that suicide is a selfish act. It's the result of desperation and helplessness. I think to the loved ones left behind it can seem selfish, but I don't think that's the motivation for suicide.

I definitely don't think it's as easy as "letting go of anger" but at some point I think it can become destructive.

I have walked the walk and I have never thought my brother to be selfish. Weak and ill, yes, but never selfish. Anyone who commits suicide has hit such a low point that in their mind death is the only escape, and often times the only way to spare their family pain. I know one reason my brother committed suicide was he felt he had betrayed my dad by stealing from him and running away. My brother truly felt the world would be a better place without him in it. I am by no means glorifying his death, I am just saying that suicidal depression is so all encompassing that you can't see anything else. Some people may call that selfish, especially if they have had to deal with the aftermath of a suicide; however I don't and I wish his family all the best as they deal with the tragedy.

I am sorry you have had to go through this, as I am with everyone else that has had to deal with it. I lost one of my grandmothers when she stepped on her kitchen table, onto the window sill and onto sidewalk.

I don't hold her responsible, she must have been extremely depressed as it took several days for her to gain the strength to climb up onto the table.

This in no way minimizing my feelings for those in her apartment building who saw her fall. They were traumatized as well.
