It turns out they won't be there in person. They're sending in avatars with picket signs, though.

Serious? It seems like there are much more important things in the world going on that people might get riled up about. As much as I enjoy my time on LP I would not picket Doobie's house if he said he had the shut the site down. (I bet you're relieved, huh, Doobie? Can you imagine my sign? "Brig Bakc LaugingPlaes!")

Darkbeer, it's a free game, Disney can do what they want because those involved didn't pay a dime. It'd be a different story if say they closed Toontown, because people invested money (10 bucks a month), so people would have the right to complain. For a free game though?

Stop trying to paint Disney in a bad light, they are doing what is best for their bottom line, shut down a game that was giving them a net loss yearly.... a substantial net loss I might add.

<<Many folks think that Disney claiming it was designed to be temporary from the beginning is just more Disney "spin">>

I distinctly remember that it was said to be temporary, and have been surprised that it stayed around as long as it did.

It was around for 3 years, what more do people want? Name some other "free" online games that have been around that long.

From the Motley Fool...

http://www.fool.com/investing/...dom.aspx

>>That's what I don't get. The site's public rationale is that the community was never supposed to last forever. It was just a Disneyland milestone promotion. That's hogwash. You don't spend years shoving codes in cereal boxes and selling cards and pins in the actual parks for virtual goodies that will be deemed worthless in a few weeks. More importantly, if you want consumers to devote time to the new communities, you're setting a terrible loyalty precedent by dismantling the one that started it all. Do you think any of the ex-VMK users will trust the new vibrant worlds Disney creates if they know they can all vanish under the guise of an anniversary promotion?

Disney has beefed up its gaming efforts since VMK's launch. It struck a deal with Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) to put out Disney online games in China. It has beefed up its software development team to create in-house titles.

So why take down the flag, Disney, when the flagpole was just starting to be raised? <<

And the point from Motly Fools is????

Thank you trekkeruss for backing up my thoughts on it being a temporary item...I know I didn't just make it up or was influenced by others comments.

Change is always difficult for so many, but times being what they are things will change. Disney has become a "Company" in the sense that they need to see rewards from their efforts. Unlike in Walt's day when everything was open at Disneyland, now if it only brings in the most money during certain hours, we see stores and food locations open selected hours. It all comes down to the bottom line......$$$$$$$'s and more $$$$$$'s.

Do I like change? Yes and no, but like it or not it is going to happen.

If you really like VMK, the why don't one of those complaining find someone who will talk with Disney perhaps, buy the rights and keep it going or put it back up once you acquire everything. Keep it free of course and see how long you can last.

Please understand, I understand your concern, but change happens and we just have to go with it.

Never fear something else will come along I am sure.

It seems to me that if I went through all the effort to go to Disneyland, no matter how upset I was, I would have a much more enjoyable and productive day actually visiting the park than standing outside protesting something. And on my birthday too!
