These protesters are just a small portion of the people who want VMK to remain open. Personally I don't agree with what they're doing, but if they think that protesting outside DL is going to do any good, then so be it. Most people have been writing letters and things like that, but Disney won't budge, even though people have clearly stated that they would be WILLING TO PAY if it meant VMK could be kept open. Some people say that Sulake (the company that actually created and operates VMK) made a partnership with another corporation and has decided not to extend VMK's license, therefore giving Disney no choice but to shut it down. Whatever the true reason is for closing the game, they will not be dissuaded. It just seems like an awful waste. I feel bad for all the game designers who worked so hard on all the beautiful graphics and items.

I love the game and have been playing since beta. I'm very sad that its closing because it has turned into more than a game, it's a community. But I've come to terms with the fact that it's closing. For those of you who play the game (obviously not many of you here!), I encourage you to just relax and enjoy the 15 days we have left to play.

Maybe if they keep VMK open, then people can go on there and protest the Small World additions at the RMK.

Ahh, the magic of virtual and physical synergy...

A response to WilliamK99's post from Tue 5/6/2008 8:19a

"...those involved didn't pay a dime."

Due note that players have agreed to pay to play the game. Secondly, players did pay in various ways through product promotions and just last month through movies in order to obtain special items to use within the game. When you redeemed your codes for buying movies it never said the game was ending in a month.

"It'd be a different story if say they closed Toontown, because people invested money (10 bucks a month), so people would have the right to complain."

So only those that pay money have a right to be heard and protest?

"Stop trying to paint Disney in a bad light..."

They have already painted that for themselves by showing the World that Disney can do anything they want to anything they owe WITHOUT regard to you or me.

Any company can do that, and be realistic the number of users willing to pay for VMK would be miniscule at best. Most users are under the age of 18.

But how many "kids" pay for Club Penguin???

A LOT, of course, they get their parents to pay for it.

And since VMK was built with a LOT of safeguards for kids, I think more than a few parents would pay a reasonable fee to let their child/children enjoy VMK.

It'd s moot point because Disney hsd msde clear thst they are discontinuing it's "FREE SERVICE". They do have another family friendly game in Toon Town, a game which my 4 year old loves, so its not like they are totally shutting out their online gamers.

I think they should have offered people the option to pay for the VMK experience before deciding to cancel it. Then it would have become clear if it was worth the cost to keep it operating.

If this isn't a symptom of an entitlement crazed society, I don't know what is.

Agree. When I played the original Everquest, which I payed for BTW, I always knew that Sony had the right to close it down. I may be angry it was over, but I know that its a realistic expectation.

It's just funny, noone is thanking Disney for the last 3 years of free entertainment, instea dthey are whining and complaining about how "Disney is ruining their lives" so much so that they are protesting in person.

I think this is a very small minority who are this upset, most realize Disney has the right to close a free game whenever they want. I play City of Heroes and when it finally closes, I will not complain or raise a fit, I'll thank the company for the years of fun and move on to another game.
