OK folks,I have been reading your reactions to the protest against the closing of VMK for a couple of days now.

Most of you apparently have never been there.

I met my husband in VMK so I guess I am sort of biased about it. (We were both adult Beta Testers, so it was not difficult to talk elsewhere, impossible now - Yay VMK Values)

It is not just about the free game. We are a Community. We have built up friendships over the years and were never told in the beginning that it was a "promotion." We were told it was a new Disney game to "Celebrate the 50th Anniversary" of Disneyland. Well, the Year of a Million Dreams is going on and on.

But I digress. This is all about the kids. We have a wonderful kid friend in VMK that got through his diagnosis of cancer and the following chemo by playing VMK and escaping the pain. His wish from the "Make A Wish" foundation was to meet "Yavn" the developer of VMK.

"Yavn" called him on the phone and met him at WDW with a couple of more VMK hosts and spent the day with him and his family. It absolutely meant the world to him and his family.

Another kid on VMK is confined to a wheelchair with something that also causes seizures. As she said on a "Save VMK" website, "In VMK I can walk, run and dance and nobody stares at me!"

It may seem like a trivial game to all of you; but to us is is a community. And btw most of us have offered to pay to play.

We are not looking for "entitlement" just our fair share of the Disney game world.

The games they want us to play instead are ridiculous. My husband and I do play POTC online and pay for it; but it in no way replaces our friends in VMK. Besides, how do we know that Disney won't shut down any game they want - so why invest money and time and emotion into a new one?

OK,I know I am rambling but another thing is that lots of people have planned Disney vacations around VMK and spent tons of money doing the quests, getting the special cards etc. So the money making could continue. Check the Fool.

OK screed over. And best of luck and hugs to all of you who will be able to be at DLR tomorrow. We are with you in spirit.

Would do it here; but just try to find a street near WDW that does not belong to them, rofl

How do we know any company isn't going to shut any game down? Everquest finally shut down, Star Wars Galaxy is close to shutting down.... Online games aren't meant to last forever.

Not that it makes a difference to the topic at hand, but Everquest is actually still running and going strong with its most recent expansion being about six months ago.

What you are not reading is that some of us have been there. When I played EQ I met several friends who I still stay in contact with, even though most of us finally left the game after the server merge. For me, that ruined the game.

Trust me, EQ is as much of a community as you will ever get. Every server had its own personality. I left the first server because the people were totally rude and were known to care about themselves. You would think it was PvP server. The second server I joined was filled with people who wanted to get to the highest levels through working together, whatever that took. I ended up making many friends through pick-up raids to the planes (high levels). Everyone needs a cleric with a good resurrection ;). In return, they helped me get parts of my Epic.

After these raids, players I had run into would see me online and drop me a "Hi, how are you doing today?" message. We would sit in different parts of the game and chat away. Enchanters would walk by and drop a clarity on me, and I would throw a Symbol on them in return. We would go on travels around the EQ globe, not fighting anything, just to see the "world" and talk and make friends.

But like all good things, it came to an end (for me). And even while playing I knew that eventually it will close down, although it hasn't yet.

Point is, it is a game. Part of the game is an online community, but its still just a game. As long as the server is owned by someone else, you need to remember they have the right to take it offline at any time. You are their guests.

Not to be rude, but are all of you VMKers really that dense? The 50th Celebration wasn't going to last forever; why did you think VMK would?

And obviously anything connected to anniversaries or celebrations at the theme parks is promotion. So I guess I fail to see how this is a surprise.

<< I play City of Heroes and when it finally closes, I will not complain or raise a fit, I'll thank the company for the years of fun and move on to another game.>>

Did any one make signs and protest when they closed

Country bear
Inner space
Captain Eo
Castle walk thru
The subs
America sings
People mover
circle vision
made pirates P.C.
Or the changes they are making to Small world?

NO because they are just rides and life did/will go on.

What a waste of time and energy to protest some thing that isn't real when there is sooooo much more going on in this world to protest about. Get a hobby, get a job, get a life.

I tried out VMK for about 3hrs a day for a week and then it dawned on me. Theres a real world out side and my legs work. After reading about this all I can think of is the South park where the kids get addicted to World of Warcraft. If closing this down get some over weight pasty faced people out side...good.

I play on Liberty, but am not playing at the moment due to where I am deployed to. once I get back I will once again start up. The company has been nice enough to hold all my characters until i return, so I don't have to start from scratch.
