See what happens, when you start to protest one thing, then other people will start to get ideas.

And thanks Darkbeer for the pictures!

Why did they have to use "What would Walt Do?"...I mean, jeez, trot out the old dead horse...

Okay, I went to the link and read all the comments. What I don't understand is, if so many people are upset about losing their "friends" and the "community," why not just shift over to Yahoo IM or something? Yeah, there is no game aspect to instant messaging, but you can share other things.

Ah well. You know, in the end, I give them credit for standing there holding up the signs. It must have been disappointing being just one of 12. And they got in the paper, so there you go.

For future protests, keep in mind the following:

1. Your signs should be legible from a good distance away.

2. Make sure your signs have a clear demand on them. This is better than a catchy slogan. ideally, it would be both. Many people would have no idea what in the world this protest was about based on the signs. A good protest sign shouldn't need a long verbal explanation.

3. Never underestimate the power of dressing alike. A small crowd looks larger if they wear some matching outfit. Gives a protest a little more instant unity. But don't get carried away (see: Heaven's Gate cult).

4. Direct your messages to the public. Encourage them to honk if they love free computer games. Or something.

5. Get a celebrity involved. Not Walt, he's dead. Instead, maybe a spoof of High School Musical. It's hip. It's happening. Entertainment Tonight might show up. You'll at leats get the attention of passersby. And Disney's copyright lawyers.

And isn't this a pathetic statement from one of the protestors:

"I've put three years of my life into this," said Andrew Lawson, a 16-year-old from Sun City, Calif.

What a sad comment from a 16 year old. So much more he could be doing with his life.

I agree Mickeyfan1. The whole thing is just sad. And kind of embarassing for the "fan" community.

I loved the suggestions Kar2oonMan! If I ever organize a street protest, I'm coming back to this thread and writing that stuff down.

But then I'd never organize a street protest, because they never work. Even when the grocery workers went on strike for 10 months and stood out in front of every supermarket in groups of 20 and 30 day after day after day. That didn't work for them either, they still got a lousy contract after 10 months of not working en masse.

And with 5 or 6 people (the "dozen" figure mentioned here must have included shift work, because none of the pictures show more than 6 people) standing in front of Disneyland for two hours on a foggy morning with vague signs, that didn't do anything either.

If anything, I think the VMK protest might only serve to remind Disney that some of their "fans" are a bit, uh, unusual to deal with and they'd be wise to steer clear of them.

it was ALWAYS meant to be a temporary game. It was stated when it opened and was its existence was actually extended more for a year or so.

The game was developed to evolve into other games and choices of online virtual entertainment.
