It's very weird, bean. Weird is even being polite. I would call it downright creepy.

The parents are the ones that were there to help the friendships of their kids. As Darkbeer mentioned it was early in the morning on a Saturday so to get these kids out of bed was a challenge.

My sons wanted to come; however, getting them out of bed at 6 in the morning was not happening as they had baseball practice the night before and game that day at 1:00PM.

These pictures were taken before the protesters added a dozen more and relocated to the Shuttle Entrance where a lot of guest were interested and informed about what Disney was doing to a Community and not a free game.

We did get a visit by what appeared to be a Disney Executive as the script was verbatim to what Disney has been saying over the phone and in letters. However, when asked it was confirmed that Disney Online is an extension to products and merchandising thus promotional vehicles.

At least they were honest for the first time and disclosing that they see their online marketing not as Communities and when such items like POTC are retired to the Disney Vault so will the game. I totally respect them for being forthcoming for the very first time since this all started and being clear to everyone going into these environments that they are not meant to function as a real communities.

My proposal to Disney is to create a "universal" friends database that is shared between all Disney Online as does their registration (same username and password). Hopefully that can do this before destroying a community, forever.

<it was ALWAYS meant to be a temporary game.>

Maybe internally, but that wasn't promoted externally. My kids have been playing it since the beginning, and they were never told it was temporary.

Even if it wasn't expressed up front, which I still recall it was, why the big deal over shutting it down. This was a FREE, I repeat FREE game, and all companies must look at the benefits and rewards gained from such things, or when the time comes to close it down and move on so be it.

Honestly I can understand your frustration and disappointment, but to stage a protest against a company that gave you something for nothing? I wouldn't blame Disney if in the future they look back on this and realize how ungrateful so many pepole were towards their generosity. Did many of you thank Disney for the three years you had...not many, you only complained. Now, that's really showing gratitude for what the did (tounge in cheek here of course). I just don't understand it. The closing of the VMK is not the end of the world.

I don't see how protesting the end of an online game is any different than protesting the cancellation of a TV show. Neither is the end of the world, but both can be very disappointing to those who invested their time and interest in them. Does that make them ungrateful?

^^^ Good analogy DD. While I doubt I would ever protest the end of a game or TV show, I know a few people that have (TV that is). My friends in Anaheim wanted to hang Georgia Frontiere by her, um, toes when she threatened to move the Rams - even had signs on their cars and these people were college educated with professional jobs (not that VMK people are uneducated) Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Wait... people stand on sidewalks and protest the end of TV shows? Are you joking? And if they actually do such a thing, the TV networks take them seriously?

I loved Mary Tyler Moore and was sad when it went off the air, but I wouldn't have ever thought to picket with signs on the sidewalk accusing CBS of emotionally harming myself and my children. I also really liked The Love Boat, and Laverne and Shirley, and those shows ran for 8+ years. VMK ran for three years.

Maybe a Hello Larry analogy would work better here? Did anyone picket NBC when Hello Larry went off the air? If they did, it obviously didn't work.

By the way, I want credit for working an obscure Hello Larry reference into this thread. It wasn't easy.
