Must.resist.jokes.

Anyway, did Jim Hill get snuggly with the pop-up fairy on his site? Another reason not to go there.

They look terrible. Why 2 bare midriffs? Why pants? What is so fairly like about coulottes?

And to leobloom: I hope your inspiration was the Zero Mostel film version of The Producers, which is fantastic, and not the classless raunch-fest that came along more recently.

I don't have a problem with them updating Ariel's Grotto to Pixie Hallow. Its not my shtick, but it will be nice.

I have no problem with them updating it, since The Little Mermaid is almost two decades old, but I question the staying power that the fairy franchise will have after more than a year or two. I really doubt that by the time they get around to finishing the last movie in the series there will be any interest left. Disney has an amazing way of taking something that people have a mild interest in and beating them over the head with it until they really couldn't care less (see also: Pirates, Princesses, Characters in general) about it. Something tells me that they will definatley have the same problem with the pixies. When was the last time you saw any of your pals from their other direct-to-video releases in the parks? Probably not too recently.

Also, something that seems to be getting more and more lost on folks these days is that Tink isn't a nice character. I'm sure that countless little girls will be brought up on these DVD's, only to watch the original Peter Pan and get really upset that they didn't keep Tinkerbell as the adorable merchandise pushing pixie they know and love. I really doubt that these movies will have any slight hint that Tinkerbell is anything like her role in Peter Pan. I'm sure she will be quite nice, generous, and elegant, to the point that she's as interesting as watching a piece of paper (see also: Cinderella).

"Tinkerbell isn't all bad. Sometimes she's all good."

I must say I preferred the original book-version fairies. The more recent ones are mighty generic. And that big-eyed Tink on the cover is just creepy. She looks kind of like a cross between Sailor Moon and a praying mantis. Ah well, I'm not even slightly the target audience here.

And who knew it would be so tough finding models anorexic enough to be a pixie?

(PS - Are they fairies or pixies? And if they're Disney Fairies, where do Blue and Godmother fit in? I'm sooooo confused.)

Well, in the movie (and play, and book) that created her, she was pretty much all bad. I really doubt that any of that will come across in any of the new movies though.

I do like how Tinkerbell seems to be socially concious and has friends from just about every ethnicity. She has an Asian friend (Silvermist), an African-American friend (Iridessa), a presumably Hispanic friend (Rosetta), a generic-enough-ethnicity-to-be-used-in-a-Year-of-One-Million-Dreams-at-Disney-Parks-commercial tomboy friend (Fawn), and of course the ultimate Aryan (Tink herself). Gee, what a coincidence that she has a friend that just about every little girl can relate to. It's almost like they planned it or something.
