<<My concern is when you come head to head with a Suburban on the freeway, is the small car really just as safe?>>

Your husband is far more likely to roll over his pickup than to crash his subcompact head on into a Suburban.

Not if you live in the SF Bay area - there are many small highways with major head-on problems -

DyG - We were looking at the Vue also - my bil has one and loves it - before that he was driving a Suburban. We were considering a used hybrid Vue - the 2007 are running about $18K - A subaru is also a good choice - DH was hit buy a utility delivery truck and walked away only needing a new door for the hatch.

I had this as my signature on my e-mail, then thought twice as I have friends whose husbands are military:

"My country went to war in a foreign country and all I got was more expensive gas."

I remember 8 years ago we moved a little farther from my dh's job, and I figured it was okay because gas was a little cheaper where we moved. The price was $.99/gallon.

Thanks gottaluv. I, too, live in the SF Bay area. DH drives into the East Bay.

Only problem with the 2007 Vue is that dh doesn't like the look. He says it's a woman's car, and I kind of agree it looks a little soccer-mommish! We both like the 2008 model better, but can't find a used one. If we buy one, it will likely either be later in the year, or a 2007.

I remember a few years ago my DH insisting on us buying a Diesel SUV - hence my Excursion - because Diesel was cheaper than regular unleaded.

I don't think my husbands truck will roll easily. It is a very low model and is pretty evenly distributed. It has very good safety rating as far as roll-overs.

I remember when diesel was cheaper! Hmmm, we bought a gas dryer several years ago for the same reason, then gas prices went sky high!

That's funny - I like the older model - I thought the new model looked girly!! LOL!

How about the Ford Escape - my x-friend hit a tree while drugged out (our town made her replace the tree) and even though the truck was totaled she walked away unhurt (although complained to get more drugs!!)

I mean natural gas, of course.

OH yeah we got the gas dryer and heater for the same reason - now the kids use extra blankets and I hang everything I can to avoid using the dryer!
