There's almost a 100% chance that a bunch of buddies and I are going to all make it on a trip somewhere for a few days sometime this year. The guys, no spouses or girlfriends. We're thinking either Vegas or New Orleans. All but three or four guys have been to either place, but not everyone in the group has been to both. I'm thinking Vegas only because that does need to be experienced. Plus it seems like there might be a little more to do there, but I'm going with the group on this one.

I can just about guarantee you there's more for guys on the loose to do here in Las Vegas. :-)

I've never been to New Orleans, but always wanted to and still do. However... Are they back up to speed and ready for "company" yet?

Whatever your interest or budget, Vegas has something for EVERYONE, and lots of it!!

Plus, as long as I'm on the Strip or Freemont Street downtown I feel very safe in Vegas. I don't think I could say the same about New Orleans.

^^I was thinking the same thing. AND you can go out and visit the "local's" places all over town and be safe.

There are neighborhoods to avoid, of course - including the streets running parallel to the Strip and Fremont Street (yep, just one "e." Named for John C. Fremont ;-)

Ogden (downtown) is known for hookers and drug dealers, and the back streets behind the mega resorts on the Strip are fine if you're driving or walking during the, but you don't really want to venture back there on foot after dark.

I was doing a little reading on Trip Advisor and it sounds like New Orleans, with the exception of Mardi Gras, didn't really come close at all to LV - even before Katrina. Now, I'm reading about tourist-are shops and restaurants that have been closed and never reopened since the disaster. Overall, it sounds like more of a family vacation destination - tours, museums, etc.

Anyway, DAR... Do some 'Net hunting and I think you'll find that whatever you guys might be looking for in terms of fun will be found - 24/7 - in FABulous Las Vegas! :-)

Ouch... typo...

I meant to say that the streets behind the Strip are fine, anytime you're driving... AND safe on foot during the day.

Basically, it's all common sense and being aware of your surroundings - just like in any large city. Drunk and wandering the streets lost and alone with your wallet around your neck is never a good idea anywhere. *LOL* ;-)

That's why I hope it would be Vegas, I'm pretty familiar with the Strip and Downtown. And I definitely wouldn't stray off the path at night.

I can't imagine it would be TOO hard to talk your buds into it. :-)

I just went to New Orleans with a group of 9 of us 25-35. I would say both are must sees, but maybe Las Vegas first. For just guys I would recommend Las Vegas anyway. The strip is fun and shows are great. People always seem to have fun in "DL for adults".

It was great to walk around downtown New Orleans and the restaurants and stores and atmosphere are great. However, during the day, those of us who were awake before noon needed tours to entertain us. We did a swamp tour and a plantation tour and saw the zoo and aquarium. They were all great, but not exactly a guy trip thing.

Well, we've not been to Vegas yet (this summer though, just before the July meet!) but we have been to New Orleans several times both pre- and post-Katrina!

Of course there are exceptions in New Orleans, but I feel safe 95% of the time. The French Quarter where Bourbon Street is, is quite safe. So is Magazine Street/Garden District. I would not venture Northwest of St.Charles. We have. I didn't feel unsafe, but we received stares from many of the minorities as we walked to one of the above-ground cemetaries.

The Ninth Ward is where most of the damage occured. It was a very bad part of town. They are the only area not up to at least 90% of pre-Katrina. Everyone else has pretty much recovered.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
