Whats the matter with all of you , if you don't want to pay the 12 dollar fee , then head up north on Harbor Blvd to the corner of Harbor and Orangefair there at the Marketplace , Park your car and catch O.C.T.A.'s Route 43 south to the Disneyland Resort , What more can you ask for , It's only a buck and a quarter each way per person , Or free If I was still driving for them !

If I remember correctly, davewasbaloo works in a field involving children and social work, or something related to that. I don't believe he was talking about the death of one of his own children.

Correct SPP, sorry if anyone misunderstood. I am afraid if it was one of mine, I do not think I would be on LP.

Back to the original thread, I am not surprised by the increase at all. It seems our local trainstation puts parking up by about 8% each year. DL is in line with that, and is still cheaper than other options.

Maybe my approach is different, but if parking hikes are a struggle, I think I would find alternative entertainment and go less frequently. I know we went 18 months without a Disney experience when we 1st bought our house. I rediscovered the joys of the municipal parks.

^ I know the feeling we just got into National Park Stamps. 391 parks for just $80 per family and it includes parking.

Another strategy to avoind the parking is to park at the Fullerton Park and Ride located at Magnolia and Orangethorpe and catch Metro Bus 460 to Disneyland (just one stop).

I think what maybe people who don't think this is a big deal are missing is the timing and cavalier way this has happened. What with skyrocketing gas prices, rising food costs, basically the general bad shape of the economy (did someone mention park admission costs too?), Disney management sees fit to pile on and add yet another dollar to this fee. Rather than do a little thing to make it easier for people to come to the park (like not raise it or even cut it a dollar), they do this. How nice, how thoughtful, how dreamy, how magical, how greedy.

<<< What with skyrocketing gas prices, rising food costs, >>>

Has anyone considered that this is perhaps why they raised the price? Resort management is responsible for delivering a certain amount of earnings each quarter upstream to the Parks & Resorts division. If the resort's expenses go up more than expected due to energy prices, then that deficit must be made up somewhere else in order to deliver the expected earnings.

And parking is pretty good place to do it. I would guess that there's far less price/demand elasticity for parking than many other things. If they raise the price of drinks or snacks in the park even $0.25, there will be a certain amount of people on the margin that will say "That's too expensive for a Coke" or whatever it is and not buy it or reduce the amount they buy. But for parking, how many people are going to come for a day in the park expecting to pay $11 for parking, then see it's $12 and say "Well, that's ridiculous - let's turn around and go home!"

I have to agree with the capitalists on this one. Every time there's a price increase on anything, there's a certain group that has good excuses why the "big greedy corporation should let us have just this one because blah blah blah."

The economy is in the pooper. Prices for everything are going to go up, including food, gas, clothing, shelter, and Disneyland. If you don't like it, get a Prius and be more careful who you vote for.

I'm not buying the argument this price hike was an economic necessity and I'll tell you why.

Last week, when I first noticed the price hike (which ironically doesn't affect me as I'm a PAP holder) we also stopped at the UVA Bar. Normally, for whatever reason, I order cadillac margaritas there. I decided to have a beer. After beer number two I looked at the receipt and it said $15.00 for two beers. I asked if this wasn't a mistake, and the bartender said no, they've been jacking up the price of domestic bottled beer every six months for a while now. There's no way in hell they have to charge that much to barely eke out a profit on beer. They're doing it because the majority of their customers are a captive audience and so therefore they do it because they can.

This little anecdote might seem wholly unrelated to the price of parking, but we've all been around long enough to know the general mindset of the DLR. They're not doing it to reach a goal for profit. They're doing to not just line the pockets, but pad the pockets as well, which is sad when not everyone that goes there are DINCs grossing $200K with sizeable disposable income.
