Topic: Science proves Conservatives happier than Liberals

11	planodisney Thu 5/8/2008 9:33a	Come on guys, even the liberals on here have to laugh at the idea that you guys are soooo concerned every day about the less fortunate people that it causes you to have an unhappy and miserable existance. Let me take another angle here. It has been proven that doing good, helping the less fortunate and giving of your time and money for worthy causes creates satisfaction and joy in someones life. So if liberals do care so much more, wouldnt they be participating in those activities that create jou and satisfaction in our lifes. This was just laughable. I know liberals who are thoughtful and caring, and I know liberals who are self absorbed thoughtless people. I know conservatives the same way.
12	DAR Thu 5/8/2008 9:50a	I don't think you have to announce that you're doing good to do good deeds. Remember when everyone in Hollywood was wearing a ribbon for the causes they supported. There was this belief that if you didn't wear one of these you just didn't care. Some people just prepare to do things quietly. I'm reading a biography about Chris Farley(and this has nothing to do if he was a liberal or conservative) but he use to volunteer(not court ordered) helping with sick and elderly people. He befriended a homeless person would take him to eat, basketball football games. You never heard of that stuff because he didn't want any attention about it. I think it's great that George Clooney cares about a situation like Darfur. But if he just did things privately on his own and didn't think it was necessary to announce what he does, I don't think people would think less of the guy.

We can be very sheltered and sometimes the publicity gets a message to more people. plano, I think many liberals do good works to help others. Sometimes it's hard to do a lot of work to make things better only to realize it's a drop in the bucket. We have to keep those thoughts at bay but sometimes they creep in. I think many conservatives work to help people too. I don't trust any study that would even research which group does more. I wonder what the bias there would be.

Why didn't they leave? Why didn't they help others leave? Why did they loot? *I* wouldn't have done those things, *I* would've left, so they should've too.>> That had to be the most superficial characterization of Hurricane Katrina I have ever heard. Hurricane Katrina effected ALL the states in the Southern Eastern portion of the US. In metro Atlanta alone we had 4 tornados spin off. Not to mention what Florida, Mississippi and elsewhere in Lousiana. But you don't hear those individuals affected by the Hurricane ( or any other natural diseasters ) complaining only those individuals who formerly resided in New Orleans. I'm all for charity and social programs to help people who are down on their luck or out of work, but I have yet to hear a plasable reason for three generations of welfare recipients in New Orleans. Perhaps Liberals are very narrow minded and forget the facts. Its pretty easy to run around screaming the sky is falling even when its not.
