So with not long until my up coming trip out to Hong Kong, I've decided I'll probarely bring along with me Issue 4 of Tales from the Laughing Place. The issue is dedicated to the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland. Its an incredible Issue featuring articles on the 4 lands, 2 hotels and food and merchadise. And I think it would make a fantastic read on the plane over. The only problem is that due to the beautiful pics and layout I kind of feel a bit un easy traveling with the Magazine on long distance flights, as I fear I'll end up spilling coffee over it, or even worst leaving it in the hotel room. Thats why I'm wondering if Lee and Lindsay could perhaps look into producing a smaller travel size version of the Magazine, to enjoy while away?

^^ You can always buy a second copy just for the trip. :-)

We have actually just started to look at some ideas for the future. We want to be able to offer the magazine on CD-ROM - the issue is that we want to preserve the quality and that means massive files. The alternative might be a jump drive with the magazines which is also feasible. I hope we can resolve that issue this month as it will allow people to get Issue 1 which is sold out.

We are also looking at foreign language issues - in particular a Japanese issue which our local partners in-country have asked us to look into. I don't know if we will resolve the translation issues (as you know our magazine has a lot of text which is very different to domestic publications in Japan) but we will see.

The problem with a travel size edition is the text - one of the biggest criticism is over the font size and although I think we have improved it over the past three years there are readers who still feel it could be larger. We have had interest in spinning off the park-special issues on their own (like HKDL, DLP at 15, Epcot at 25 and now DAK at 10) and we will look into that.

Thanks for the suggestion though Malin!

Actually guys, if I were to be picky, I would actually say that Tales is in contravention of the Disability Discrimination Act due to font size (12pt recommended), though I think there are some get outs for publications.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to reply Lee. The way I see it is that unless it makes sense from a financial point of view and can still offer the quality found in the regular size issue. I have no problems in offering my feedback anyway and see this part of the Board a good area to do it in.

Regarding the foreign language issues, Japan is a must try market, althrough it will offer quite a few challenges from your point of view, I think a Magazine that covers the World of Disney, aimed at the Japanese audience would go down a treat. In fact seeing that very few American's or European's ever visit visit some of the other parks, I think this Magazine would be great vaule for the Japanese who do love to travel and visit not only TDR, but HKDL, DLR and WDW on a regular basis. In fact I've even noticed an increase of Asian guest at DLRP over the last couple of years. A version of the Magazine translated in Japanese symbols would probarely only improve your relations with OLC too.

Good luck with the future and it looks like you've talked me into the sale of another Issue 4.

Lee,

You might want to look at that treatment that uses Google Maps technology to present the magazine in it's whole. You can zoom in and out all the way from viewing every page of each issue all the way into the point where each line looms in the page.

It's quite brilliant and I can see myself reading magazines that way in the future.

Still no good for reading in the tub, however.

^^ Thanks for the tip, Indigo.

We should be launching the electronic version shortly - we are just trying to work out the best media to use at present but I think we are almost there.
