So I am back looking to cross the Atlantic to hit DLP fairly soon. I know basically nothing about European school schedules and holidays there. Since I can put this trip together pretty much anytime I want, my goal is to avoid crowds like the Black Death. Is anytime in June, July, Aug. or Sept. a decent time to tour?

By the way the thrust of the trip will be in Italy(Venice, Rome, Florence) and I want to somehow cross the Chanel this time for London. I also have half of a mind to tap a brown cafe in Amsterdam again.

September is really the only time you will avoid the school crowds, and in August, all schools in Europe are on vacation. Hat said, off season the park is open 10-8, between 5 July and end o August, park is open untl 11 with Fantillusion and Fireworks. I have been in August before and midweek was not bad. However, between the extended 15th celebrations and TOT being heavily marketted, I expect this summer could be a record year. June las year was certainly busier than previous years. But we managed to get Lulu on 12 attractions, a show and lunch at Walt's with time for shopping. Avoid any sunny weekends like the plague.

The Baloos are currently looking at being there the last week of AUgust.

You mean they don't present Fantillusion nightly?

What gives?

I agree with Dave that to miss the crowds September would be best. I also expect this summer to be busy. I am also planning a trip for the last two weeks of August. For fear of sounding like I'm stalking the Baloos perhaps a meet could be in order?

I do just want to add a disclaimer to say that this trip was supposed to happen in June for my birthday, but holiday dates couldn't be arranged until late August. I swear I don't scour LP to see when the Baloos are heading to the parks so that I can stalk them internationally!

With that said, midweek will be better at anytime as Dave said, but that's a given for anywhere really. Avoid Bastille Day like the plague (July 14th).

Have you thought about cathing the Eurostar from DLP to get to London. It's very convenient as the train picks up from right outside the park and takes 2.5 hours to get to central London. I much prefer it to flying.

Fantillusion is generally not performed in the off season because the park shuts very early compared to other Disney parks and also (unofficially)because DLP is poor!

BTW, I like how you've dotted out my name! u k f.... conjures up all kinds of possibilities!!!

<<Is anytime in June, July, Aug. or Sept. a decent time to tour?>>

As Dave and Kieran have said September might be a good choice but I'd also add in June - European schools typically don't break up until early July.

I think you need to consider what you want out of the experience - if you want the longer hours, Fantillusion and fireworks then you will have to visit mid-July to the end of August.

That said - you should check out some Italy guidebooks too - a lot of Italy shuts down in August for holidays (a typical trait in Mediterranean Europe). If you want the cities you should be fine but any of the smaller towns are literally closed in August. The other issue is the weather in Italy in the summer - it can be unbearably hot.

Do bare in mind if you look to book in September, make sure its not early September but between mid and late September. As some European School Holidays end up going back a bit later. Weather is also really good in September, very mild and not too hot.

<<< You mean they don't present Fantillusion nightly?

The park closes for most of the year while still in daylight. This is always a problem when your operating hours are short. Fantaillusion can be enjoyed during Summer and on selected dates during the Christmas seasons only. When it comes to night time entertainment DLRP is the weakest out of the Disney parks.

Alo the other issue we have Mr X is where we are located. It does not get dark until very late in Europe (10:30pm in June), and although it is dark before 8pm between Oct and Feb, they only sometimes run Fantillusion during the Christmas break.

Lee - I had considered June and referred to it, but it was pretty busy when we all there last year.

"between the extended 15th celebrations and TOT being heavily marketted, I expect this summer could be a record year."

a great point---one I'll heed.

"Avoid any sunny weekends like the plague."

Ya, no weekends---rain or shine.

"Have you thought about cathing the Eurostar from DLP to get to London."

Yes--- that would be the way to pull it off--- better than flying for me because the train will allow for countryside views, I hate planes anyway(or at least flying) and as you say can't beat the "door to door" service from DLP resort to London.

But is that rail route cheaper than flying?

"BTW, I like how you've dotted out my name! u k f.... conjures up all kinds of possibilities!!!"

LOL,
when I do the dot trick I never use a set number--- it's just pretty much random. Lucky I chose 4 dots rather than 3 this time, right? :)

"but I'd also add in June - European schools typically don't break up until early July."

June, being on the sooner side rather than later sounds appetizing to me. As for the big cities vs small towns, I think it is safe to say that we'll be big city dwellers like the sterotypical camera toting tourists. Now, if I had some local Italian cousin in the countryside then all bets would be off.

As for fireworks I dig them as much as the next guy but nowhere near enough to offset hanging out in 1.5 hr. lines for attractions or waiting 20 minutes to grab an ice-cream treat in Fantasyland.

"Do bare in mind if you look to book in September, make sure its not early September but between mid and late September. As some European School Holidays end up going back a bit later. Weather is also really good in September, very mild and not too hot."

---more helpful, sound advice.

Mr. X is now X-san? What happened, did those quakes shake a new name out of you?
:)

So I could pull something in June and expect some crowds but nothing unbearable. But the consensus tells me Sept. is really the most reasonable.

Thanks everyone!

The direct train is pretty good value for money I think at around £60-70 ($120-130).

You probably could find flights cheaper, but you'd have to add in transfer costs so whenever I look the train is usually cheaper or equal and so much nicer!!!
