Topic: What's wrong with Disney 'fans' ...

That wasn't the reason I brought it up. It was just a pet peeve about 'fans' ... no, in the big scheme of things it isn't all that significant. But it was driven home recently when I saw WDW selling 'retro' monorail tees with Jack's spiel on them thinking 'there's Disney dumbing things down to the LCD of their fans (likely after spending time reading sites like this)' ... like I said pet peeve.

But Jack was indeed the Voice of WDW no matter how you look at it. I'd rather not have a discussion about them here -- my threads often take off on tangents and I'd like to keep this one at least somewhat ontrack. If you want to discuss them or my criticism of their recent actions in a new thread I'd be glad to join you. >>I like Marty... The recent criticism that has been leveled at him is richly deserved.<< <<Yes, but not the uncharacteristic cheap shot that opened this thread.>> I thought that shot was as cheap as his shots against the fans who dare think the Small World changes were poorly thought out and done for the wrong reasons in his PR response to the fan community (and largely Jon Nadelburg). But again, I'd rather discuss it elsewhere.

And again, it should be taken in the context it was given. Can we get back to the pet peeves?
46	Goofyernmost Sun 5/11/2008 5:23a	I sometimes get the feeling that some of you think that because we may post on a Disney Board or two and have opinions that seem obsessive, we are people with no discernible lives. To say that if, for example, I feel that fastpass will cause long range harm, that makes me a geek, well then so be it. I, probably mistakenly, feel that I have a right to express myself on this subject and if that becomes a pet peeve to someone then you must ask yourself, which one of us has a problem? I have also been called a Pollyanna because I don't always notice the evils of chipped paint or a light bulb out, but, at the same time I can be critical of a huge part of the Disney experience and be considered a peeve provoking geek. I'm so confused. Perhaps I should lie down.
47	Witches of Morva Sun 5/11/2008 5:40a	ORDDU: Back in the mid to late 80's, my sisters and I had the pleasure of meeting Jack Wagner during an interview we were conducting for the N.F.F.C (National Fantasy Fan Club). At the time he took us into his personal studio, where he showed us all his recording equipment. He had this large room in his house where he created all his recordings. He was such a charasmatic sort of gentleman with many stories to tell. Unfortunately, he passed away not too much longer--I believe within a year or two--after our interview with him. ORWEN: I wish we still have the recorded tape from the interview, too, because it's been so long ago since we've heard it, even though we were the one's in charge of it. But we handed the tape over to someone at the N.F.F.C. and don't know what's happened to it. ORDDU: Still, it was quite a highlight for the 3 of us to be in his presence.

49	trekkeruss Sun 5/11/2008 9:03a	<<Fans who know Jack Wagner only for some stupid closing the doors on the monorail spiel in Espanol instead of the amazing wealth of work the 'Voice of WDW' did before his passing. I'd venture to say that 90% of the people (yeah, I'm pulling that number out of ... ) who think it's cool to repeat the inane spiel have absolutely no clue who Jack was. Sad.>> I'll be one of the first to admit I know very little about Jack Wagner. Does that make me sad? I don't think so. Everyone is different, every fan is different. Some are very hardcore fans, some not so much. Some just enjoy Disney for what it is, whatever that may be or mean. There are going to be people who know or appreciate less about Disney than I do, but there are also going to be people who know and appreciate more than I do. That is just a fact of life. So... what is wrong with Disney fans? Nothing, or nothing more than being a fan of anything else. It takes all kinds, and if the Disney company didn't have all kinds of fans, it wouldn't be anywhere near as successful as it is with its products.
50	WilliamK99 Sun 5/11/2008 9:22a	I think what is wrong with Disney fans is there are a select few (5%) or so who think that if someone doesn't agree with their viewpoints or doesn't know the history as well as them then they are not as strong of a Disney fan, therefore their opinions mean less than the "true" fans...
