| sdlovesmickey Sun 5/11/2008 10:50p | I am feeling the urge to hop into my car and drive to the DLR right now (my trip is 43 days away)...since following through on that urge is out of the question I thought we could discuss the little rituals you and your family have to prepare for your trip/build up the excitement. I know we have discussed this at some point in time, but I am feeling nostalgic and needy so humor me!
My DD (age 7) and I like to start "practicing walking" to get our legs ready for all the walking we are going to do in DLR. Of course we usually do this in preparation of our summer trips. We try to walk a few times a week for at least a month in advance. We also listen to our Disney CD and add things to our Disney box that we want to take on the trip. I try to purchase little surprises for her for the car and/or plane trip such as sticker books, etc. I usually start that several months ahead of time and then pull them out when we start the trip. |

About two weeks before we go, I start to stick a different sized needle into my eye every day, every four minutes to simulate hearing a new Hannah Montana song in the car. |

I also like to divide the week into parts, to make things seem to go by quicker. For instance, if I were planning to arrive in a Disney park 2 weeks from today (Monday), I'd call today 2 weeks out, Tuesday and Wednesday just under 2 weeks, Thursday and Friday a week & 1/2, Saturday and Sunday just over 1 week, and then Monday would be 1 week out.
I used to start counting days about 2 months out, but that would be just plain silly. |

Sleep - get up next morning leave stopping off at starbucks on the way out of town!! |

I'm on LP much more often when we get close to a trip. I also watch the vacation planning dvd a few times.
Most of our "rituals" however are during the drive there. Leave early, fuel at the same places along the way. Lunch at the same restaraunt (Wendys in Evanston), admire the scenery and water falls through the canyon above Salt Lake, stop for the night in Primm.
The biggest one is breakfast at the IHOP in Barstow on the second day of travel. I'm not exactly sure why that became a must, but it sure is... We're a strange bunch :) |

| koolaidmom Mon 5/12/2008 12:23p | about 1 week before we leave, we start a staging area. Things we don't want to forget get put into the staging area. It makes it seem like the trip is real when we get to start doing this. We are going in 97 days.yippee |
