Put me in the group that groans at the Narnia 3D attraction. I liked the Narnia movie, but the LAST thing I want to see is yet another 3D movie based attraction, based on ANY movie property. The possible exception would be Philharmagic, which is awesome, but if it never comes to Anaheim, I will not be sad. I'm tired of clones, and I'm tired of 3D movie attractions, period.

I'm dubious that it's going to be a Narnia thing anyway. All this speculation these days is just pure drivel as far as I'm concerned. More and more, I'm thinking that less and less is actually going to happen to DCA in the next 5 years, given our ever growing economic uncertainties, and even the lack of a pool of creative talent at WDI to actually implement all the work needed, if what Jim Hill is reporting has any validity.

And I don't know how you can possibly do a decent theming job to transition to the world of Narnia from the backlot area. If all they are going to do is stick Narnia inside the boring grey box that they have now, then that's a step backwards. Typical DCA, if that's what happens. Why does this park have such a curse over it??? But then, I'm just spouting negativity again, aren't I?

BTW, I'm also dubious about the "smoke" that's supposed to swirl up around the Silly Symphonies Swings, as reported. Here in California, it's too difficult to do anything that emits smoke or particles of any sort that would survive in outdoor situations, due to our extremely tough air quality regulations. That's why our version of the Pooh ride doesn't have smoke rings puffing at you, like Florida's does. Because it was not allowed due to California air quality regulations.

Only thing that got me excited about this article was the Orange Stinger changing to the silly Symphonies swings! As soon as I heard the name i pictured the twister spinning the barnyard concert around and i think it is a perfect way to change the Orange Stinger.

"I'm thinking that less and less is actually going to happen to DCA in the next 5 years, given our ever growing economic uncertainties"

absolutely

"the lack of a pool of creative talent at WDI to actually implement all the work needed"

Do not be fooled by Hill's article. Your first statement will be the main reason for delays and changes. Many former Imagineers have been available for years. Disney has not asked them back for many reasons but not the reasons Hill gave.

skinnerbox, thanks for the insight, but your cryptic statements like

>>Disney has not asked them back for many reasons but not the reasons Hill gave.<<

aren't of much use. Can you give us at least a teeny bit more than that?

There is no contractor shortage. Too many Imagineers were let go or coerced to quit over the past decade. To claim a shortage now exists is laughable. Even Tony Baxter was told to stick with Disneyland and let Bob Weis take care of DCA.

I do not know specific reasons why Hill wrote this. Any delay will happen because of money. It always boils down to money with Disney. Any labor shortage will be artificial because of unwillingness to spend money. Blaming this on Dubai is a poor excuse.

I believe it is all a wait-and-see, how low will the US economy go by the WDC beancounters.

I think that is why there seems to be interminable delays in getting any real work done. Look at it this way, since the Extreme Makeover Theme Park Edition was announced what exactly has happened?

If you say Midway Mania, you'd be incorrect as it's been in the pipeline for years and isn't a real part of the rebranding no matter how it may appear.

Basically, the answer is 'nothing.'

Nothing has opened, closed or seen construction commence in any way, shape or form.

Just a lot of back and forth. If you knew how many times Orange Stinger has been slated for removal, then changed to stay, then a moving, then a retheming and back again you'd be swinging so much you wouldn't need an actual ride.

I get the feeling that much of this work will keep getting shoved further down the line and I'm really not interested in hearing about 2011, 2012 or 2014 when we're just into 2008.

If gas hits $5 a gallon and attendance reflects that you might be stuck with that wonderful (yeah, I'm being sarcastic) DCA postcard and concrete entryway for a lot longer than those wonderful models and renderings might have you believe.

Oh, and just to echo what others have said, but Hill's Dubai-excuse is really just a load of fetid, cow manure. Sometimes I swears he makes it up as he goes along. There is NO shortage in Imagineering and there are plenty of talented folks chomping at the bit to return or get hired by WDI who aren't. And the Dubai mirage has nothing to do with it at all.

People keep talking about the economy and rising gas prices and yet attendance at Disney parks worldwide were up this past quarter, and future bookings are up as well.

Gas has only taken a very sharp rise fairly recently. And I would think bookings are done many months in advance (?).

"Hollywoodland strikes me as rather contrived and unimaginative"

Yeah - it would make more sense in Florida. "Hollywoodland" was just the name for a real estate venture and with the plethora of hotels on property that is pretty much WDW has become.

ORDDU: As far as this witch is concerned, they can call it anything they like--as long as the attractions within are of a high quality with crowd pleasing results. After all, a witch by any other name flies her broomstick just as high...
