I heard EPCOT was getting DCA's new entrance. They're sticking it in World Showcase somewhere.

I think we've reached a new low in Message Board history, complaining about something that hasn't even been hinted at yet.

I will accept the Small World complaints, the excess character complaints, but to complain that EPCOT will probably get Little Mermaid while DCA gets screwed is a bit too much.

Little Mermaid isn't going in Epcot, it's going in the back of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom.

I don't know who started mentioning Epcot, but that's not true.

"That's just great. Here we go again. What is it with DCA? Do they have a death wish over DCA that anytime it gets something totally new and unique, the Florida parks has to rip it off?"

Did you honestly think that Disney wasn't going to build this big new attraction based on one of their most popular franchises in Florida too?

well that was the idea. This attraction was pushed for DCA only as an original addition to the park.

Leave to the whining executive in WDW and Jay to want to clone it at the MK now.

And if this is true, you can also blame the bean counters. It's probably easier to justify the cost of a new ride when research and development is spread over more than one park.

The problem with that is that, for the most part, every time Disney has had an attraction that they think will be cheap to reproduce, it ends up costing them more than the original including all it's development costs. On paper, they seem to be able to justify anything. Unfortunately, reality generally shows that to be a fallacy.

>>> And with the economy turning as bad as it's going, I wouldn't be surprised if the plug is pulled on many of the announced DCA improvements. We might not ever even get the Little Mermaid attraction. Just like what happened with Alien Encounter, and all the rest of the Tomorrowland 2055 development that Disneyland was supposed to get.<<

Now you are being silly, getting worked up over "What if" scenerios.....<<<

I'm not the only one here who's starting to fear that Disney is cooling their jets on the major enhancements and expansions. Do not forget that Disney made the announcements in the first place as ammunition to help thwart the Sun Cal residential development in the Resort Area. Disney really would never have showed their cards, so to speak, if the Sun Cal development didn't force their hand. I doubt any of us would have seen those models and renderings if Disney wasn't trying to strengthen the theme park component of the resort area as a political move to win the fight with Sun Cal and the Anaheim City Council.

And if they never made the announcements, they wouldn't have been faced with having to pull the plug on anything because noting would have been promised, and none of us would have been any the wiser.

But regardless of why Disney made those announcements, the announcements were made, but under a much different economic climate. Today, the economy is rapidly deteriorating. For the first time, the meteoric rise in gas prices seems out of control with no realistic downturn in sight. The foreclosure crisis is going to blow up and significantly damage the economy. Prices are rising for practically everything, food especially, because everything has to be shipped, and the price of fuel is out of control. Everything is costing more almost every day, and that is not hyperbole.

And the only thing that is not keeping pace with the rising cost of everything is... wages and salaries. And if families are forced to pump more and more of their discretionary income into their gas tanks just so Bush and Cheney's buddies can get richer and richer, or for food for that matter... then those folks are not going to be as likely to spend 80 bucks each for mom and dad and 60 or 70 bucks each for the kids to get into a theme park. (a prediction of the prices by the time these DCA improvements would have likely been completed)

So I absolutely DO think that Disney is being very cautious. And I would not at all be surprised if we DON'T necessarily see all those construction walls and wrecking balls late this year and into the years to come.

Prepare for the worst, and at worst things will meet your expectations but you will have come to terms with it, and if things actually turn out much more positively you will experience much joy and happiness . But if you pin your hopes on the the most positive scenario happening, you set yourself up for great disappointment if circumstances that you have no control over make things go sour.

So hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst. And anything in between is really just a crapshoot.

I think this summer will be very telling. Earlier, a Disney Rep. said reservations were stong for the summer, but recent reports in the news is how everyone is canceling there Summer vacations. I haven't heard anything from Disney about their current reservations projections, but I would imagine they would be as effected if not more because of the base cost of a Disney vacation is high to start with.
The regional parks around me, (the old Paramount parks) have all lowered admission price. Or are giving perks like free soda. UniResort FL is now offering a $79 7 Day/2 Park parkhopper. For that down at Disney, you can get a 1 Day/1 Park. To get the 7 Day Parkhopper it runs $219.
I think since UniFL is committed to the Harry Potter expansion, Disney is going to add something big, but less expensive than an original attraction, like LM. Then market the crap out of it and try to ride the swell coming for Harry Potter.

Wow. Talk about a deep discount. And those are pretty good parks. Proving that discounting and quality don't necessarily have anything to do with each other.

The local SF here (in NJ) is touting a "secret" (but marketed all over the place - kind of an oxymoron) way to get in for 25 bucks. I think there's definitely some anxiety out there about how gas prices are going to affect travel this summer.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
