<<C.S. Lewis borrowed heavily from his colleague J.R.R. Tolkien. The bit with the trees .. the battle scene on that green lawn ..reminded me too much of the battle on Pilinear fields in front of Minus Tirith, the water stream .. with the crushing water .. barring down on "the bad guys" on the horses.>>

Umm...Prince Caspian was published in 1951, the Lord of the Rings was published in 1954/1955. So it would really be the other way around. BTW, the crushing water destorying men on horses is really in neither book exactly. Both movies took artistic licenses to make the scenes more exciting.

<<There seems to be too much of a random nature ... with no CLEAR story .. and a CLEAR threat ... As Tolkien did so well with the threat of Sauron.>>

The Narnia books do not all have a common villain, however I'm surprised that for Prince Caspian it's not very obvious that the villain was King Miraz and the Telmarines in general.

<<Characters who sort of come in .. and out ..without any clear development.>>

I agree that the characterizations aren't incredibly strong in the films. However, the book is better in this IMO.

<<Oh .. a tap on their backs in the subway terminal ... and a little dialog .. "it's magic".>>

The book did this better as well making it more obvious of the horn calling the kids. Also, in the book the horn is blown after some time is spent trying to thwart the Telmarines. Essentially the night raid scene which is completely made up should not involve the kids at all in the book's timeline.

<<Ummm .. I don't buy this lack luster way of telling a story. And I felt that way with most of this second Narnia film.>>

I did think that this movie suffered from a thiner story that it needed to have, especially when it came down to characters. So many characters were changed (In the book Prince Caspian is more of a wide eyed 13 year old, Peter is not an angsty teen and Susan is becoming distant from Narnia not actively engaging in warfare) and in the end I found the movie to be too different than the book to be completely enjoyable.

Maybe if I hadn't read the book I would enjoy the movie more, but I just didn't agree with many of the changes.

Back to the topic... I would like to see the movie with my young son. For those who have seen the film, what age should be the cut-off. Thanks!

I hope this will help you:

It's a little more scary than National Treasure but much less scary than Pirates.

That's about all I can say on this issue. I guess I would say this movie is on about a 10/11 year old's maturity, but it just really depends on your kid. But if they've seen either of the movies I mentioned earlier, then I think they could handle Prince Caspian.

I know this is old, but I agree that I would let my kids (if I had 'em) see Prince Caspian before any of the Pirates films.
