Hi everyone ! I am sorry to have been gone for so long, but, shortly after coming home from our trip, my 20 year old son started having heart problems. WHHHAAAAAATTT ??!! Yes, HEART problems. Found out he has a leaky valve, and was having irregular heartbeat, and tachycardia (fast heart rate). Meds did not help. Ended up in the E.R., and shortly thereafter, son had what is called a Cardio Version. That is when they shock your heart and stop it, then shock it again and hope it goes into normal sinus rhythm. He was completely knocked out for this procedure, and, I was a walking wreck !! I honestly thought I was going to throw up from all the stress. He was in the hospital for the next 3 days after that, and is now at home, with home healthcare checking his blood levels every week, because he is taking heart meds and blood thinning medication. This has all been quite the shock, as, my son is only 20, and has always been in great health ! He will see the cardiologist weekly now, until we decide what to do about the leaky valve problem. I am quite the nervous wreck now, and any extra positive thoughts would be welcomed for sure !
No matter how old your kids get, they are ALWAYS your babies , huh ??!!

Thanks for listening folks ! i will try to keep you updated on the latest....

disneyland1... after everything you've been going through it sounds like you need a big hug

I know I would be feeling the same way if it were my son (also in his 20's). I'll say a prayer for you both. Try not to fret overmuch. Take care of yourself!

Hopefully his leaky valve will heal with time. Mine did. I was a little older when I had my problem. Early 30's. I did not have tachycardia, I did have irregular heart beat. Mine was healed with Prayer, medicines and rest.
I sympathise with you as does my Mother. Take good care of both of you. No heavy lifting for him, try to keep it under a gallon of milk in weight. I know just how boring that will be for such a young man, but we want to see him healed. Hugs and prayers for you both.

Well welcome back DL1, and I hope things condo I'd to improve for your son. No parent likes to be in a situation of having to worry about their children for any reason ever. Keep us posted on the progress and God bless.

Mary Poppins, It sounds like maybe his heart was enlarged. If that happens it will stretch the valve opening to where it does not seal off after each beat. It can heal on it's on with no physical intervention, mine did. Just with medications and rest. As the medications got the fluid off my heart and with the rest, the valve went back to proper size and sealing off like it should.
I only know what my Doctor has told me and everybody is different. I hope that my words are not scaring anybody. I am only trying to share my experience. I had a positive outcome. Things like this can be so scary, especially If you have never been through them. I can only imagine how I would feel if it was my DD going through this.
Hugs and Prayers for your whole family.

DL1, your son is in my thoughts and prayers, and you're so very right: he'll always be your son, your little love. I'm very grateful he's under medical supervision now and hope this comes to a very happy conclusion for you all. Take care. We're all thinking of you and pulling for your son. xoxo

It's wonderful that the problem was diagnosed and it sounds like you're on the right track to getting your son good care. Yup, they're always our babies no matter how old they get. Big hugs for your son, your family and you!! Hang in there, and don't forget to take time for yourself.
