***The City of Kennesaw north of Atlanta actually ~requires~ citizens to own firearms and to be trained in using them. The city has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.***

A) no they don't require all citizens to own a gun.

B) there is no penalty for "breaking" said law.

C) the issue of crime statistics in that city are a source of dispute, and hardly qualify as "one of the lowest crime rates in the nation" although apparently it's a safer town than neighboring Atlanta (duh).

Even the law in its original form only required heads of households to own a firearm, and the law was quickly changed to weed out conscientious objectors, criminals, people who couldn't afford a gun, and so on.

That coupled with the no penalty thing makes the whole issue just nothing more than hype (hey, every town needs something to print on their "Welcome to" sign, right?).
