That must have been very, very early in the pre-deal stages because I've not heard about any of that ... much of it sounds bizarre, although I can see all those DD concepts since Pressler and Eisner were so high on them back in the late-90s.

In what coked-out imagineer's mind does Star Tours belong in Adventureland?!?

Well, is it really more appropriate to Tomorrowland, considering the story took place "a long time ago"? ;p

"In what coked-out imagineer's mind does Star Tours belong in Adventureland?!?"

I wouldn't say that. You could easily say it's an "adventure". Plus, with theming like the forest of Endor like they have at MGM...oh, excuse me, DHS, it would fit thematically with the typical "Adventureland" we're used to.

Randy - was it definitely labelled HKDL? The project you have described sounds like something else that never made it beyond the planning phase for another Asian location.

Conservation Station was also included in this bizarre Adventureland (on Adventure Isle).

Lee, the blueprints themselves weren't labeled "HKDL." I assumed it was HKDL from the time-frame (and was not aware of other Asian projects).

Spirit,
Regarding your comment, "HKDL is the only Disney park that I'm aware of where the orginal model simply isn't in circulation."

The only full park models that I've seen in circulation are (i)DisneySea (WDI book), (ii) and Epcot (New Vision of Tomorrow book). Do you know where to find pics of full park models for the other parks (DAK, DLP, DHS, MK, TDL, etc.)? I've seen partial park models for DLP (Sketch to Reality) and Animal Kingdom (Making of DAK), but not full.

I'm not Randy ... but that sounds more likely.

I'm not familiar with said project (please fill in us little people!) ;-)
But I do know a fair bit about the history of HKDL and I had never heard anything remotely like the above until it was posted.

I can't say off-hand without researching a bit (and I don't really have the time to until the weekend) but I have seen full models and/or renderings for every Disney theme park ever built except for HKDL (and possibly DSP). And these weren't behind the scenes deals sent by friends, these were either published in books or magazines or on display in other Disney parks.

At WDW for example, they had full-scale models of EPCOT Center, Disney-MGM Studios and DAK at the Walt Disney Story post-show.

I know at DL they placed a fullscale model of TDL in the Showcase when it was under development.

Those are just a few off the top of my head. Obviously, every Disney fan has seen Herb Ryman's original rendering for DL, followed by the renderings/maps by Sam McKim.

It's just very strange that Disney, which has made a cottage industry on putting out artwork of things it never builds (and sometimes does), hasn't released this anywhere to my (or thus far) anyone else's knowledge. Considering that a huge portion of the park never made it off that drawing board perhaps it isn't such a mystery.

When even Jim 'I'm More Interested in What Disney Doesn't Build Than What It Does' Hill has never been able to secure that document, it does make one think that it is buried (in a landfill in Glendale)!
