Just wanted to add that thanks to Loomis' fine site, I neglected to mention two other attractions that would have been included at HKDL on Opening Day.

They aren't exactly big favorites of mine, likely why I have totally forgotten but Tough To Be a Bug was going to be shoehorned into the park's Frontierland ... and Aladdin's Magic Carpets would have brought a spinner to A-Land.

Out of all the things that were cut, these were two I think deserved the chopping block.

ORDDU: My sisters and I have read that the Little Mermaid attractions may still make it to Hong Kong Disneyland, eventually, if it's successful at DCA and IF the Hong Kong Government ever gets over itself long enough to let further development occur.

You really can't at all compare the travesties of Walt Disney Studios Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.

WDSP was truly an awful barren place. It reminded me (greatly!) of that dreadful MGM theme park that was behind the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I literally could not believe I was standing in a park built by the Walt Disney Company. I'm sure it has been immeasurably improved by the four recent additions--particularly the Tower of Terror, which filled in that enormous hole in the center of the park. But no matter how many attractions you add, it's always going to suck HARD compared to every other Disney park in the world.

Hong Kong Disneyland is a world away from that--it's tiny, but beautiful. You can see that it's a child waiting to grow up. This is a park I can imagine visiting again in ten years once it gets some love and attention.

I suppose it depends on your definition of "beauty", Mara.

I thought HKDL was overly cartoony looking, and utterly lacking in little hidaways and interesting "Disney style" things to find along the way (something DisneySea EXCELS at).

Since they are so commited to "Disneyland as Fantasyland", I'm afraid anything else they build will just have to fit into that weird mold.

I find it rather disconcerting.

At least with WDSP, you have just barren, ugly stuff...which can be changed and improved if the right people actually get involved.

With HKDL, they are pretty committed to that strange little vibe they started with (I have no idea on earth how any of the other lands can fit into that cartoon city look they have there, but then again they managed to shock me with Adventureland AND Tomorrowland as being so far removed from the original cool concepts as to be nearly unrecognizable.

To me, that "rest of the park" just seems like Fantasyland East and Fantasyland West.

I don't think it's all that beautiful at all, but lots of fans (somehow) see it differently.

I think you'd have to tear down that tragedy and start all over if you really wanted to fix it.

Not so with WDSP.

We see things exactly the opposite.

Apparently so.

I guess my point is where at the WDSP they have (shamefully) pretty much a "blank slate" which could be hopefully added to in the future to make something far more pretty and impressive, at HKDL they already have a scheme for the whole place that, to me, doesn't really work compared to the other magic kingdoms (though I'd say that fantasyland and main street are done very well...main street as an absolute cookie cutter model of California so they couldn't go wrong, and fantasyland because there the cartoony vibe does fit a lot better (still reminds me more of toontown than fantasyland).

Visiting the park for the first time you certainly miss not seeing certain E Ticket attractions like the Pirates, Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain. Also Hong Kong Disneyland lacks when it comes to not having enough smaller attractions like the Tiki Room for instance which while it never results in a large crowd, it does provide a nice mini break and ocupies a bit of your time. I don't have a problem with some of the lands missing as the Main four still need to grow, especially Adventureland which is huge with the attractions all spread out, while Fantasyland and Tomorrowland have all its attractions compact into smaller spaces.

Excellent synopsis of the park Malin. ;)
