Fri 5/16/2008 5:00a | What I've heard is that Disney's marketing department decided Toy Story Midway Mania was too long, too confusing, to promote to the public. So for marketing purposes, the name is "Toy Story Mania". But the actual attraction is "Toy Story Midway Mania".
TSMM should be the name going forward once this initial marketing push is over since that's the name on the marquee. |

Fri 5/16/2008 7:40a | I've heard that marketing story as well. But I think it's worth noting that the only merchandise that's come out so far also says "Toy Story Mania". So the thlot pickens.

1) That many guests would not know what a midway was (probably a fair assessment for international tourists); and
2) That the term midway has either negative connatations (ie. it is carnival games that cost more for cheap prizes) or what discourage people to investigate further.
You will also notice that they play up the Toy Story element more in the marketing. |

Nice thing about TSMM is that it would differentiate it from the new musical onboard the Wonder which could be abbreviated TSM (Toy Story the Musical)

Fri 5/16/2008 8:22a | I don't think a name will have any effect upon attendance at the attraction. It's going to be very crowded in Orlando every day. Not sure what kind of crowds it'll have in Anaheim--maybe it'll do a TOT and be a walk on.
So, we'll see if TSMM does a TOT in DCA. :) |
