<<Really, this argument went game, set, match, Dabob2 in post 208.>>

<Dabob's post 208 simply repeated the same false arguments he's made in the past.>

There were no false arguments. Please point out a false argument.

<The author of the pieces I linked to did not ignore the idea that correlation does not equal causation - he clearly addressed it.>

"Addressed it" only to dismiss it. He essentially says "Look, I know this may look like I'm saying this correlation equals causation. But I'm not. Really." Just claiming not to be doing it isn't good enough and falls apart with the slightest scrutiny.

<There simply is no other candidate to explain why the decline in marriage increased when gay marriage was adopted.>

Of course there is, and I provided it. The change in legal status provided to cohabiting straight couples at this time. You have yet to address this in any way. Wonder why.

"The only thing this thread proves is that proponents of gay marriage can't argue in its favor without dismissal, distortion, and demonization."

Good grief, what rot. You know, it's an easy game to claim "distortion" and the like without showing any actual examples. It's like Al Sharpton crying "racism" all the time. Yes, there is racism out there, and yes there are sometimes distortions on these threads, but when you cry "distortion!" too often, like Sharpton calling "racism!" too often (where it fits AND where it doesn't), you just make yourself look foolish and diminish your stature.

I'm a proponent of gay marriage, after earlier in my life opposing it. I'm ashamed I used to.

My argument: that it's simply the right thing to do. There's no good reason my wife's sister and her partner should not be granted equal status to my wife and I. They've been married longer than we have. They're one of the most perfectly suited, rock-solid couples I know. It really is "till death do you part" with them. And it's not a choice, they couldn't suddenly decide to become straight if they wanted to, it's part of who they are as individuals. And individuals should be treated equally under the law, and with equal respect and equal dignity.

You may not agree with the above points, but it would not be fair to say that I'm arguing for gay marriage based on dismissal, distortion, and demonization.

Sure it would. You could have made your point without claiming I'm making myself look foolish and am diminishing my stature.

But those are two different questions.

I argued in favor of gay marriage with no distortions, etc. Just offered positive reasons why I favor it.

Talking about you crying wolf with "distortion!" has nothing to do with my argument on gay marriage, and you indulge in it on plenty of other topics too I've noticed. You look equally foolish when you do it on those other topics. So these are two separate questions.

>>a mormon on these very boards stated unequivocally that if his church proclaimed that blacks were once again inferior in their eyes, he'd have absolutely no problem following it.<<

Did that really happen? It's difficult to imagine anyone actually being such a moral-less sheep...

I'm not going to name names, but I think you know very well who it was. There's not all that many Mormon posters on here, after all.

You know what I think leads to some divorces? Gays marrying...........the oppisite sex. I am gay and was married for 18 years. We were pretty much miserable the whole time. Now we are 44 years old and both are alone. I not only selfishly wasted my life, but a big chunk of hers. I really wish I could have been honest years ago. I was just really trying to do what everyone expected, wanted, and pushed me to do.
