No, just kidding. Seriously, the Character Design blog has posted some new pictures of characters from Bolt, Rapunzel, the Princess and the Frog, and The Bear and the Bow.
Three of them look really promising. (Can't we just call off Bolt altogether? Please?) |

| christiemarsh88 Fri 5/16/2008 6:36a | I LURVE the designs for the Bear and the Bow. Very cool. Especially the princess. She has a very wild, boyish look, yet she's still very pretty.
The others are less exciting, though. The image from the Frog Princess, nothing wrong with it, that one just didn't send shivers up my spine like the images from the Bear and the Bow, or even the first still from Frog Princess.
The prince from Rapunzel looks a little too much like Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet for my tastes. My other question is about how well he blends with the design of Rapunzel. I wonder how preliminary this is. I'm sure it will end up looking great.
And Bolt, well, maybe they'll just decide to premier it on the Disney Channel right after Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or My Friends Tigger and Pooh. The Bolt characters look like rejects from those shows. |

Cartoonbrew.com was comparing them, unfavorably, to the characters from Everyone's Hero. Brrrrrrrr. The girl in that shot, BTW, is voiced by that talented and experienced animation voice artist Miley Cyrus. This movie just OOZES Corporate Product from every pore.
I think all the designs are preliminary (other than Bolt). I have no problem with Treasure Planet-style character designs, as long as they use them in a better movie. I am confident, at least, that they still know how to give a movie a cohesive look. |

| Witches of Morva Fri 5/16/2008 9:36a | ORWEN: I thought the prince for Rapunzel looked a bit too much like Prince Eric in Jim Hawkin's clothes.
ORDDU: And who was that impossible to identify character above the prince? Certainly not Rapunzel, herself.
ORWEN: That just leave the witch, I guess.
ORGOCH: Well, she needs ta work on her dang image. Not scary 'nuff lookin'. Didn't see a single wart an' no broom.
ORDDU: She looked like some plain Jane with no defining features to make her stand out the way Maleficent or Mad Madame Mim always have.
ORGOCH: Heck!! She didn't even stand out as much as US!! |

I didn't have a problem with the character designs of Treasure Planet, I just don't want them to use the same style for this movie. It looks too much like they took Jim Hawkins and plopped him down into Rapunzel. I'm sure it will be wonderful in the more finalized stages, though. |

| Witches of Morva Mon 5/19/2008 6:09p | ORWEN: I agree with christiemarsh88, myself. I mean, the more I think about it, the prince in the picture looks too modern for a medieval fairy tale. His clothes should be different than that. I hope they aren't going to change the original time period for this movie because that'll make me start hurling curses if they do!! |
