>>>BTW, we agreed on the DCA boiler room being lit in too cartoony a fashion; however when I was there in December it seemed toned down and better. See if you think so.<<<

**Grumble*** I was stuck in miserable LA freeway congestion. What normally can be a 90 minute trip took about 3 hours. I arrived at the gates of DCA about 10 minutes before park closing, and they weren't letting anybody else in. I guess I'll just have to wait until the next trip to see the TOT lighting for myself.

Hans, don't worry, it was funny.

The hostess was legitimately injured that afternoon, but now she shows her leg bruises with a laugh and says she earned her first ECV Purple Heart. It was funny, and the visual of it several days later is still funny.

And yes, Imagineering now designs stuff differently for American parks knowing that they'll get bashed by rented ECV's. They are now replacing merchandise display racks in Disneyland stores with new fixtures made of sturdier materials and designs that can withstand a full frontal attack by a rented ECV loaded with 300 pounds of weight.

I've seen big people in rented ECV who don't know how to drive take out chunks of brick/stucco walls in New Orleans Square. A girl I know in Guess Relations had a huge lady in an ECV yelling at her about how hard it was to get around some areas of the 53 year old park in her chariot, and when she was given the address for "corporate" to write to, she left City Hall and bashed the heck out of the northern doorway repeatedly before she finally maneuvered her rented ECV out the door, scraping up the antique wood table on the east facing wall of the lobby while she was at it.

There's a few folks who put on the PC Police badge and try to prevent anyone from speaking of such truths, but they still happen more and more at Disneyland USA. At Tokyo Disneyland or Disneyland Paris? Not so much.

Would you like to Supersize that?

You know what I've noticed? Anyone who is in their own personal wheelchair, and especially folks who clearly spend their whole lives in a wheelchair for whatever physical reason, are almost always the nicest and most gracious people to play host to. They are genuinely appreciative of whatever assistance you can provide, and most of them don't even need anything as they are so used to getting through the rest of the world where the physical barriers are far more involved than anything we have at Disneyland attractions.

The big, huge folks in rented ECV's are the ones who often bellow about not being loaded immediately through the back door, or who complain about not having enough room to maneuver on the Pirates Unload dock or the Haunted Mansion loading area, etc. When they rented the ECV for the day so they didn't have to walk all the way to Toontown and back, somehow they thought it would be easier for them to get around. It's not. And they get frustrated easily.

The folks living their entire life in a wheelchair, usually pushing it themselves with their hands and arms, are always far more appreciative of your simply being there, and they usually don't want or need you to do anything special for them. And we're glad to be of service to them.

I just find it rather frustrating when they bring 15 people with them through the exit to ride.

Last year we took my 80-year-old grandma and while she can walk it would have simply been to much for her so we got her a wheelchair to push her around on the last day. It was just my mom and I and we felt horrible "cutting" in front of everyone and then we would see the ECV people bring 15 people with them.

That's really sad about the damage being done!

Just remove the ECV's. Offer wheelchair rental only. Would that help?

In one way it would, but you also have cases where some people do not have the upper body strength to push their wheelchairs around for that long(like my dad), and the ecv is easy to steer if you are use to it.

I just love that Westsider, a respected CM and LPer, is echoing what I've been saying for years.

And buddy, if you think it's bad in Anaheim I got some news for you, it's 100 times worse in O-Town.

Lazy, fat, egocentric people have made a cottage industry at WDW of renting these monstrosities and then running and ramming the rest of us, as well as walls, doors, and assorted infrastructure.

And this PC BS is too much. I would be my retirement that a good 80% (likely higher) of ECV users are just plain lazy and view them as a way to not walk and hopefully bully their way in front of people and even onto attractions with priority.

It's a real eye-opener to be at Pop Century as I was last year and watch a truck pull up and drop off dozens (maybe 100) of them for one resort alone.

My biggest regret is that in 1998 I didn't move to O-Town and start a business renting these to the selfish hordes that don't use them for any legit purpose.
