In one of the pages, she actually identifies herself as Daisy.

I've never heard the Daisy pages. I assume this is new. Forgive me if someone has already explained this - I haven't read all of the posts.

No, it's been there all along, delighting guests who hadn't already died laughing from the brilliant puns on the restaurant signage.

Yes, they added the pages when the BGM went to all Disney movies. Frankly, I don't know why they are there. The idea of an operator paging people on a backlot over a loud speaker system is ridiculous. They'd ruin any take currently being shot.

Because they're funny? (Or they're supposed to be, anyway.)

Better shut off the background music, too. Oh, yeah, and make sure everybody's cell phone is on vibrate. And no talking, folks!

Ok, there's a difference here. It's like saying if a movie has a score, it's okay to have a bad script because in real life people don't walk around hearing dramtic music all over the place. So it doesn't matter if the script sucks because you already ruined the movie by having a score.

A lot of people have trouble seeing the line between theatrical effect and story. The music is a theatrical effect. The pages are story, bad story if I may be so bold.

I never thought of it that way. You're right, though I think you may be overthinking it.

Seriously, it never occurred to me, despite the "backlot" in the name, that I was actually supposed to be *inside* a studio when I was walking around there. I saw it as more of an idealized Hollywood, with theaters and restaurants and streets.

Am I dense, or is the story not explained well? (Actually, those aren't mutually exclusive, are they?)

And no debate here about the quality of the jokes. They're incredibly corny.

But seriously, does anybody remember any of them? They've all vanished from my brain.

No, you're not dense. There basically is no story that explains the Hollywood Pictures Backlot. This is just another example of where the many, many compromises made in the design and execution of DCA served to detract from a cohesive whole.

The Hollywood Pictures Backlot is supposed to simultaneously represent a real business street in the Golden Age of Hollywood, as well as a studio backlot. The problem is that these are mutually exclusive. What is painfully obvious to analytical observers is that a compromise was made in order to avoid building a genuine street of detailed structures (both exterior and interior), or a full blown backlot. Instead, we have a hodge podge of buildings, facades, and sound stages, with a massive traditional theater at the end of the street. Like the rest of DCA, it is visually and logically confusing.

I think your reaction is not uncommon -- 'thinking about it too much' by foot. Think about it for two seconds and it becomes confusing.

'Hollywood Studios Backlot' -- It's one of the many inconsistent aspects of the park that make DCA an overall fuzzy experience.

Incidently, the BGM for HPB was originally a medley of classic Hollywood film themes. In the panic following the public's indifference to DCA, a decision was made to add more Disney "character" and "magic" to the area. So the Hollywood soundtracks were scrapped in favor of all Disney tunes, and the operator (I also was unaware it was Daisy) with her humorous pages was substituted.

The next time you're at DCA, hang out in the area until you hear the chimes that sound out the opening bar of "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah." This will be followed by Daisy's urgent page to one of the other Disney characters.
