Went to DL park yesterday - park seemed to be in very nice condition, particularly in Fantasyland where all of the plants and flowers seemed to be sparkling.

Can any "regulars" comment on current park condition?

A lot of the flower beds have been completely swapped. Over in DCA, all of the different colored poppies have been replaced with a bed of orange marigolds. It's very ugly, IMO.

I also noticed the TL wraps that depict Space Mountain as flying saucers. How new are those? I haven't been out there for a while.

They date back to right around the 50th. I remember seeing them pop up right around the time Space Mountain reopened and they started "de-bronzing" parts of Tomorrowland.

Are you talking about the murals for Buzz? If so, those were added when that building was covered from its previous incarnation as Rocket Rods.

Greg Emmer started something for the 50th called the "Show Refreshment Team". Basically it's a group of craftsmen that move in a pack and spend one week working on each land/area. The park is divided up into eight sections, and every eight weeks the Show Refreshment Team comes back to the same area and paints/repairs/improves stuff in each area again. They did this for 18 months through the 50th, and after the 50th Greg Emmer made the concept permanent from a funding standpoint. It continues today.

The Park has been able to maintain a fresh, clean appearance because of this. In addition are all the wonderful stuff the Horticulture, Facilities, 3rd Shift Custodial, Resort Enhancement (decorating) departments do to keep the show looking fresh daily all over the park.

The 50th is over, but the mistakes of the past are not being repeated when it comes to cutting back on maintenance and TLC.

Wow, that's good to know Westsider!

I still remember when I visited the park in 2003 and it was the first time in my life that I visibly noticed how run down it was looking. I chalked it up to spending a good amount of time being in TDR at the time (which is ALWAYS clean and looks refresh) or just spending too much time reading people groan about burnt out light bulbs for 3 paragraphs and it finally rubbed off on me lol.

But, yes, I DID notice and that was disheartning. But of course I came back for the 50th in 2005 and yeah it felt like night and day. It was the Disney I grew up with and the one or two times I been back since still feels that way now. Hope they keep it up :).

Someone needs to teach Phil Holmes about things like this. He obviously has forgotten everything he learned in traditions and the MK suffers because of it.

Parts of the MK are literally rotting away, but I'm sure Phil's bonuses are quite robust.

Thanks for the info Westsider. I have also noticed a nice change in the parks appearance and upkeep.
