It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."<<

So according to his speech there are 58 states, he hasn't been to Alaska yet. I am so glad we are going to have a President who knows his geography so well.

Even thinking their are 58 states, he is smarter than our sitting President though.

I am curious if the new states will have delagates going to the Democratic primary or will Howard Dean ban them along with Michigan and Florida?

I like Obama a lot, but that's a pretty cringe-worthy moment. I guess it's inevitable that they'll have some nasty gaffes on the campaign trail. I've long defended John McCain for saying al Qaeda is conspiring with Iran - he obviously knows the difference between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, but that one was pretty bad too.

And neither of these errors come any where near claiming to be under sniper fire when it's really a nice happy celebration :)

I just chalked this one up to Obama trying to emphasize that he's been everywhere and then some, intentionally exaggerating for effect. Perhaps if he'd exaggerated more, something like "I guess I've visited 85 states at this point," it would have been more obvious. I think most people know how many states there are.

Nice try Dabob, but he has already said it was due to fatigue... and watching the youtube clip, he wasn't exagerating.

I believe the new states are:

East Dakota
West Dakota
New Southwest Mexico
West Wisconsin
North Alabama
Southeast Ohio
South Montana
San Francisco(Though rumor has it they may secede from the Union altogether.)
