Sonya Smith at the OC Register has gotten to go on record in regards to the status of the Mark VII Monorail Red...

http://ocresort.freedombloggin...roperly/

>>Disney Spokesman John McClintock said today that the new train is still undergoing tests and adjustments. That includes the doors and air conditioning. He said both are working, but just not yet to Disney's satisfaction.

McClintock said there is no date yet planned for the monorail's public opening. When asked if the monorail might make it out for this Memorial Day weekend, he said that is "not at all likely."<<

Darkbeer, this is a quote from your "Monday in the Parks" blog over at that other site:

"FYI, the new Monorail Red is still having issues, including sensor problems, and the fact that the temperature inside the cabins is too high. There is no Air Conditioning in the main cabins due to weight issues, and the new windows are just not allowing enough air flow, even with fans built into each cabin. Hopefully they can figure out the problems in the next few days."

Or for gosh sakes. No air conditioning?? And those windows don't look like they even open up at all like the old Mark V ones did. And if the temperature is too hot inside now, imagine how unbearable it's going to be once those cabins are filled with hot, sweaty people in the middle of July and August. This whole monorail thing looks like one blunder after another. And I don't think they even bothered to bring in Bob Gurr to advise on the monorails, and he has had a hand in bringing them all online from Mark I through Mark VI. Why did they think that all that institutional memory wasn't needed for the Mark VIIs??

BTW, do you happen to have any closeup shots of the windows themselves, showing just how they are intended to provide any ventilation at all? I looked at your pictures again, and I can't see how they are able to do anything other than be hermetically sealed tight.

In regards for the windows, I want to make a joke about not allowing photogrpahs, but as you can see in my photos from last Friday, I can easily take shots through the glass!

But as I understand it, the new window design is for "safety" reason, aka lawyers.

Here is the best shot I got of the new Windows in their "open" position....

^^^Ah, I get it now. Yeah. That's going to be one hot and sweaty monorail. Too bad. I guess I'll just go on it in wintertime.

They are INSANE not to have air conditioning at this point. The whole thing is such a waste of time and money that I wonder what anyone involved is thinking. Either make it a viable transportation system or scrap it entirely.

Get used to restrictions like this on new attractions/systems. That's the way it is going to be from now on - if something even gets built.

Those windows are ridiculous. How could they even consider that design and not include air conditioning? DOH!

What's the deal anyway? Is there some big, fat file full of dummies photographed with missing digits from stickin' 'em out the windows in the past? I can't think of any area of the track where the trains run close enough to anything for the lawsuit-happy morons to reach out and slam into something.

In the original post Disney says the trains DO have A/C, Darkbeer says they do not. Which is correct?
All times are Pacific Time (US)
